Buying safety goggles in Bangladesh

Safety goggles enclose the area around the eyes to keep out flying particles, dust, splashes and fumes; safety spectacles do not seal the eyes in the same way. Factories, laboratories, workshops, hospitals and building sites in Bangladesh buy them by the box. A safety goggles manufacturer in Bangladesh should state which hazards each model is certified against.

Buyers still ask for EN 166 goggles, but EN 166 was withdrawn in 2022. Roptan sources from verified makers, checks that the certificate and marking follow EN ISO 16321-1 for your exact model, has the anti-fog claim tested and inspects the bulk. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of safety goggles

Impact goggles

Usually polycarbonate lenses, usually ventilated against sweat and fog. Choose them for grinding, cutting, machining and general workshop use where particles fly.

Chemical splash goggles

Laboratory goggles that combine impact resistance with side shields against splashing liquids. Choose them for labs, dyeing and chemical handling, and check that the report covers liquids.

Welding goggles

Goggles with filters for the optical radiation, heat and debris of welding. Choose them for welding work, tested to ISO 16321-2 as well as Part 1; blowtorch goggles are not the correct filter for arc welding.

Mesh goggles

A mesh in place of a solid lens, with its own part of the standard, ISO 16321-3. Choose them only where the task suits a mesh protector and the certificate covers that part.

Over-spectacle goggles

Goggles designed to fit over prescription spectacles, or to take a prescription insert. Choose them when workers wear glasses; EU rules require models for such users to be compatible with spectacles.

How to specify safety goggles

Hazard
Name what the goggles must stop: impacts, dust, splashing liquids, molten metal, hot solids, gases or optical radiation. The certificate must cover each one.
Standard and market
EN ISO 16321-1 for Europe, ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 for the US, AS/NZS 1337.1 for Australia and New Zealand. Name the market so the right mark is made.
Anti-fog and ventilation
Fog is the usual complaint on hot, humid floors. Specify the anti-fog treatment and the vent type, or a dual-layer lens, and ask for the anti-fog test.
Lens
Lens material, clear or tinted, and any coating. A tinted lens for work is still a safety lens, tested as one.
Fit and users
Over-spectacle fit or prescription inserts, strap type, and sizes for the workforce. Inserts are frames under ISO 12870; the goggle is the protector.

Standards and rules for safety goggles

EN ISO 16321-1:2022+A1:2025
General requirements for occupational eye and face protectors. It replaced EN 166, withdrawn in May 2022; ISO 16321-1:2021 with Amendment 1:2024 is the international text.
ISO 16321-2 and ISO 16321-3
Extra requirements for protectors used in welding (Part 2) and for mesh protectors (Part 3). A welding or mesh goggle needs the extra part, not only Part 1.
EU PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Safety eyewear is usually Category II PPE, which needs EU type-examination by a notified body. Annex II also requires anti-misting means where relevant.
US OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.133
US employers must use eye protection that complies with ANSI/ISEA Z87.1, in the editions the rule lists, or that they show is at least as effective.

What moves the price of safety goggles

  • Hazard cover: splash, dust, molten metal or welding protection adds tests beyond basic impact.
  • Anti-fog: a treated or dual-layer lens adds a process and a test over a plain lens.
  • Certification: an EU notified-body certificate per model adds cost that a self-declared product does not carry.
  • Spectacle fit: over-spectacle designs and prescription inserts add parts and a second set of rules.
  • Markets: certifying one model to two markets' standards means two sets of tests.

Lead times and delivery

We give no figure here, because time depends on the order. It grows with a new model, with extra hazard tests such as splash or welding, with an anti-fog test, and above all with a notified-body certificate when the model has none. Roptan confirms the dates, and the minimum per model, in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to factories, laboratories, hospitals, contractors and distributors, packed singly or by the box with the marking visible. Each delivery carries the packing list, a copy of the certificate and test report for the model and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Certificate edition and modelWe check the certificate and report cite EN ISO 16321-1, not only EN 166, and name this exact model.
  • Hazards coveredWe match each hazard in your order, such as splash or welding, to a result in the report.
  • Anti-fog resultWe look for an anti-fog test result for the lens you are buying, not only a claim on the box.
  • Marking and bulkWe compare frame and lens marks with the certificate and inspect the packed bulk under ISO 2859-1.

Questions buyers ask

Is EN 166 still valid?

No. EN 166 was withdrawn in May 2022 and replaced by EN ISO 16321-1, now with Amendment A1:2025. Many buyers and tenders still write EN 166, so we read it as a request for the current standard and check that the goggles are certified to EN ISO 16321-1.

Why do goggles fog on a factory floor?

A closed goggle traps moist air from inside, and the vapour condenses on the lens, usually faster in hot, humid work areas. Anti-fog treatment, vents or a dual-layer lens reduce it. Ask for an anti-fog test result, since EU rules require anti-misting means where relevant.

Can workers wear goggles over their glasses?

Yes, if the model is designed for it. EU rules require PPE for users who need sight correction to be compatible with spectacles. Choose an over-spectacle goggle, or one that takes a prescription insert, and try it with real users' glasses before bulk.

Can sunglasses or tinted glasses replace safety goggles?

No. The sunglasses standard excludes eye protection for work, which falls under ISO 16321. A tinted safety lens is fine, but it must be tested and certified as a safety protector against the hazards on your site.

How soon will I hear back about eyewear and optical?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
