Buying sacking yarn in Bangladesh
Sacking yarn is the coarse jute yarn woven into sacking, the heavy cloth, usually double warp, that becomes sacks for foodgrains, sugar and other bulk goods. Sack and bag mills in Bangladesh buy it, and so do weavers abroad. Its warp and weft are spun to very different counts, so a sacking yarn manufacturer in Bangladesh quotes each one separately, with the fibre batch and the oil.
Roptan sources sacking yarn from verified spinning mills. We put the warp and weft counts, the fibre batch and the oil into the order, check count, strength and moisture on your lot, and deliver to your sack mill or ship it. You deal with Roptan only.
How to brief a sacking yarn manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Two counts
- Warp and weft each in lb per spyndle, pounds per 14,400 yards, with tex and a tolerance. A higher number is heavier; 10 lb is about 345 tex.
- Fibre batch
- The grades and shares in writing. One teaching batch for a 10.25 lb sacking warp is 60 percent hard jute and 40 percent soft jute.
- Batching oil
- Mineral oil emulsion is the usual softener before carding. For food sacks, state vegetable oil or a maximum oil content, and the test you want.
- Strength
- Breaking load per yarn and the quality ratio, load in pounds over count in lb per spyndle, times 100, for warp and weft separately.
- Contract regain
- An Indian standard fixes 20 percent for A-twill bags. For yarn, write your own regain into the order, since invoice weight is corrected to it.
Laws, tests and papers for sacking yarn
- ISO 2060 and ISO 2062 on both yarns
- Count by the skein method and breaking force from the package, run on warp and weft lots separately, so a weak weft does not hide behind a good warp.
- IJO Standard 98/01 and oil analysis
- For food sacks, ask for a test report to IJO Standard 98/01 plus a MOSH and MOAH analysis: a 2024 cocoa-industry study judged the standard's USM test unsuitable for mineral oil limits.
Lead times and delivery
Running warp and weft counts from a regular batch usually load sooner than a special count, a food-grade oil or a lot held for a lab test, and a poor raw jute crop tightens supply. For export, the minimum is usually one 20-foot container, and some mills ask for 25 tonnes or more. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, we deliver cops or spools in gunny bags, cartons or on pallets by covered truck to your sack mill, with a packing list showing measured regain and corrected net weight, the lot test report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Food-sack yarn travels apart from mineral-oil yarn and lubricants, which can contaminate it.
Buying sacking yarn for export
Sacking yarn ships under HS 5307, single yarn at 5307.10 and plied at 5307.20; finished sacks are a different line, 6305.10. We quote FOB Chattogram, or FOB Mongla for mills near Khulna. Documents usually include the commercial invoice, packing list with lot numbers and corrected net weights, bill of lading, certificate of origin, the lot test report and, for EU GSP, a REX statement on origin.
Questions buyers ask
What warp and weft counts does sacking need?
Usually 8 to 10 lb per spyndle for warp and 14 lb and above for weft, about 276 to 345 tex and 483 tex upwards. The exact counts follow the cloth weight and weave, so send the cloth specification or a sample.
Does the jute packaging law cover the yarn?
No. The Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010, Act No. 53 of 2010, governs packaging: goods named by rule must be sold or supplied in packaging of at least 75 percent jute. It reaches sacks, not yarn, though it supports sack demand at home. Its inspection powers sit with the Department of Jute.
Can sacking yarn be made for food sacks?
Yes, if it is ordered for it. Ask for vegetable or restricted batching oil, a test report to IJO Standard 98/01 and a MOSH and MOAH analysis. An Indian sugar-bag standard also specifies a food-grade loose liner for one bag type, against oil and moisture.
Why are hard and soft jute mixed?
Mills batch several grades to reach a count at a cost, and grading sets fibre price. One teaching example for a 10.25 lb sacking warp is 60 percent hard and 40 percent soft jute. Bangladeshi law also counts mesta as jute, so state any mesta share.
How soon will I hear back about jute yarn and twine?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
