Buying polyethylene rope in Bangladesh
Polyethylene rope is twisted or braided from polyethylene filament, often HDPE monofilament. Polyethylene is lighter than water, so the rope floats, and like other synthetic rope it resists rot. Fishing, marine and packing buyers in Bangladesh and abroad use it, usually as 3- or 4-strand twisted rope. A polyethylene rope manufacturer in Bangladesh sells it by diameter, construction, colour and coil length.
It is a different material from jute rope and a different product from high-modulus polyethylene rope. Roptan sources it from verified rope makers, puts the polymer, construction, UV stabiliser and coil length into the quote, checks mass per metre and the breaking force report on the lot, and delivers in Bangladesh or ships it. You deal with Roptan only.
Briefing a polyethylene rope manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Polymer and filament
- Polyethylene or HDPE, monofilament or multifilament. Listing titles often mix PE, PP, polyester and nylon rope, so confirm the polymer on the quote.
- Construction
- 3-strand or 4-strand laid rope to ISO 1969, or braided rope with the number of strands. Braided PE rope has no ISO product standard, so the order defines it.
- Size
- Nominal diameter in millimetres and mass in kilograms per metre, the preferred international way to size rope. Mass per metre shows how much polymer you get.
- UV stabilisation
- Polyethylene is highly susceptible to photo-oxidation, which makes it brittle. For outdoor or fishing rope, state a UV stabiliser, such as a hindered amine light stabiliser.
- Heat
- Polyethylene usually melts at 115 to 135 degrees C, so friction or hot work can soften the rope. Say if it will run over a winch or near heat.
- Colour and coil
- Colour and coil or reel length, such as 200 m coils or 660 m reels, or packs sold by weight.
Standards and tests for polyethylene rope
- ISO 1969
- Requirements and designation for 3-strand hawser-laid and 4-strand shroud-laid polyethylene ropes for general service, without fittings. It does not cover braided rope.
- ISO 2307
- Test methods for linear density, diameter, lay length, braid pitch, elongation and breaking force of fibre ropes. Ask for the report on the size and construction you buy.
- ISO 9554
- General characteristics of fibre ropes, used with the standard for each rope type, with guidance on use, inspection and when to retire a rope.
- ISO 10325
- Covers high-modulus polyethylene braided and covered ropes, a separate class. It is not a basis for specifying ordinary polyethylene rope.
Lead times and delivery
Rope in a running diameter and colour on standard coils usually ships sooner than braided or kernmantle rope, a special colour, an added UV stabiliser or a reel length made to order, and a breaking force test adds time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum for your size and colour in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, we deliver coils or reels by covered truck to your boatyard, net maker, port or warehouse, kept out of direct sun until use, since light degrades polyethylene. The packing list gives diameter, construction, colour and length per coil, with the test report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying polyethylene rope for export
We quote FOB Chattogram. Polyethylene rope usually ships under HS 5607.49, twine, cordage and rope of polyethylene or polypropylene other than binder or baler twine; your customs broker confirms the full line. Documents usually include the commercial invoice, packing list by coil, bill of lading, certificate of origin and the ISO 2307 test report.
Questions buyers ask
Does polyethylene rope float?
Yes. Polyethylene has a density of about 0.88 to 0.96 g/cm3, below that of water, so PE rope floats, which suits fishing and marine lines that should stay on the surface. High-modulus polyethylene rope floats on sea water too, but it is a different braided product.
How long does polyethylene rope last outdoors?
It depends on sunlight and stabilisation. Polyethylene is highly susceptible to photo-oxidation, which makes it increasingly brittle, so outdoor rope needs a UV stabiliser. Ask what the maker adds and for any weathering test; no single life figure applies to every rope.
Is there an ISO standard for braided polyethylene rope?
Not for ordinary PE rope. ISO 1969 covers only 3- and 4-strand polyethylene rope, and the braided polyethylene standard, ISO 10325, is for high-modulus rope. For braided PE rope, the order sets construction, mass per metre and breaking force, tested by the ISO 2307 method.
When should I choose jute rope instead?
When the rope should not persist after use. Polyethylene is not readily biodegradable, so lost or discarded rope stays in the environment, while jute is biodegradable. Choose jute for dry packing and decoration, and polyethylene for wet, floating or rot-prone work.
How soon will I hear back about jute yarn and twine?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
