Buying rubber compound in Bangladesh

Rubber compound is raw polymer already mixed with fillers, oils and a cure system, ready to mould, extrude or calender. Makers of seals, soles, hoses and rollers in Bangladesh buy it instead of running their own mixing. Each batch follows a recipe, and small drifts in filler or cure show up later as parts that fail early.

A rubber compound manufacturer in Bangladesh mixes to a recipe; you fix the results it must meet. Roptan sources from verified mixers, writes test limits into the order, has batches tested against them and delivers. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of rubber compound by base polymer

NR and SBR compound

General-purpose compound on natural rubber or styrene-butadiene. SBR resists abrasion and ages well when protected by additives. Choose it for soles, rollers and general moulded parts.

NBR compound

Nitrile resists oil, fuel and many chemicals; more acrylonitrile gives better resistance to non-polar solvents. Choose it for oil seals and fuel hoses, and name the fluid.

EPDM compound

Resists heat, ozone, steam and weather, and is stable in hot and cold water, but degrades on bitumen and is not for oil. Choose it for outdoor seals and hot-water parts.

Butyl compound

Butyl lets very little gas through, so it is used for inner tubes, and halobutyl for tubeless tyre liners. Choose it for parts that hold air.

Chloroprene compound

Chloroprene resists burning better than hydrocarbon rubbers and stays flexible over a wide temperature range. Choose it for gaskets, hoses and belts that meet weather and some oil.

What to put on a compound order

Polymer by ISO symbol
Name the base polymer as NR, SBR, NBR, EPDM or CR under ISO 1629, and any blend, so every seller quotes the same rubber.
Hardness
Give Shore A with a tolerance, measured to ISO 48-4 on the batch.
Uncured behaviour
Set limits for Mooney viscosity (ISO 289-1) and the curemeter curve (ISO 6502-3), which show how the batch flows and cures.
Cured properties
Ask for tensile and elongation (ISO 37), heat ageing (ISO 188) and compression set (ISO 815-1), cured at your stated time and temperature.
Service conditions
List the fluids, temperatures and outdoor exposure. Volume change after immersion (ISO 1817) and ozone cracking (ISO 1431-1) show whether the compound suits them.
Density and composition
State density with a tolerance (ISO 2781). With thermogravimetry (ISO 9924-1) it shows whether filler matches the approved batch.
Cure system and form
Say sulphur or peroxide cure, and the form: slabs, strips or pellets, interleaved so they do not stick.

Test methods for rubber compound

ISO 48-4:2018
Shore hardness by durometer: the A scale for normal hardness, AO for soft and cellular rubber. Ask for the scale on the report.
ISO 289-1:2015 and ISO 6502-3:2023
Mooney viscosity by shearing-disc viscometer, and cure characteristics on a rotorless curemeter, both on uncured compound.
ISO 37:2024, ISO 188:2023, ISO 815-1:2019
Tensile stress-strain, accelerated ageing and compression set of cured rubber. Older editions are withdrawn; ask which one the lab used.
ISO 1817:2026
Effect of liquids. The 2026 edition took effect in August 2026; quote the test liquid, temperature and time with it.
ISO 2393:2014
How test mixes are prepared, mixed and cured in the lab, so results from different sellers can be compared on the same basis.

What moves the price of rubber compound

  • Base polymer: each rubber is a separate raw material with its own cost, and imported polymers add freight.
  • Filler and carbon black: compound makers buy carbon black in a market where tyre makers usually take most of the output.
  • Recipe changes: special cure systems, colours or additives add trial batches.
  • Tests per batch: Mooney, curemeter, hardness and cured properties each add lab cost.
  • Batch size and packing: small batches and interleaving cost more per kilogram.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on whether the recipe is approved or needs trial batches, on imported polymer, on test rounds and on batch size. Heat shortens the life of compound, so batches are usually mixed close to use. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum batch in the quote.

Roptan delivers compound anywhere in Bangladesh in covered transport, each batch labelled with recipe code, batch number and mixing date, with the test report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Keep it cool and use it in batch order, since heat causes scorch.

Buying rubber compound for export

Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong) for compound. In EPB data for FY2025-26 the unvulcanised compound line is almost all rubber compounded with carbon black or silica, and much of the rubber group is recorded as supply into local zones. Ask for a storage period that covers the voyage, and the seller's ERC.

What we check for this order

  • Batch against the approved trialWe compare Mooney, cure curve and hardness of each batch with the approved trial, not a data sheet.
  • Density for filler driftWe have density checked per batch, because a rise usually means more filler than the recipe.
  • Labels and mixing dateWe check that every pack carries recipe code, batch and mixing date.
  • Storage before dispatchWe check that stock sits cool and covered, since heat shortens the safe life of uncured compound.

Questions buyers ask

Which hardness scale should I put on the order?

Shore A, measured to ISO 48-4:2018, for most compound in the normal hardness range, and the AO scale for soft or cellular rubber. The reading time and the conditioning of the test piece change the figure, so ask for both on the report, with a tolerance on the delivered batch.

What does a Mooney figure tell me?

Mooney viscosity, measured to ISO 289-1, shows how stiff the uncured compound is and so how it will flow in a mould or extruder. Compared with the approved batch, together with the curemeter curve, it is the first sign that a batch has changed.

How long can I store uncured compound?

There is no single figure. Heat speeds up scorch, the premature cross-linking that makes compound unusable, and ISO 2230 does not cover uncured compound. Agree a storage period and temperature with the seller, keep stock cool and use the oldest batch first.

Is an abrasion test enough to compare compounds?

Use it for comparison only. ISO 4649 measures volume loss on a rotating drum, but its own scope says no close link to service performance can be inferred. For soles or rollers, back it with a trial in the real part.

How soon will I hear back about rubber products?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
