Buying kids' sweaters in Bangladesh
Kids' sweaters are the adult garment types, pullovers, cardigans and vests, in children's sizes, where every button, zip and cord is a safety question. Importers buy them for autumn and winter ranges, and children's jumpers sell in Bangladesh's cool months. Garments for 86 cm body height or less count as babywear, so this page covers older children.
Children's knitwear answers to more rules than adult knitwear, each with its own age limit. Roptan briefs a verified seller of children's knitwear, writes the trim list and test plan for your market into the order, checks the sample, and collects the reports before the bulk ships.
How to brief a kids' sweater manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Age range and market
- Ages and markets, since each rule has its own limit: EN 14682 to age 14, US children's products to 12, OEKO-TEX class 1 to 3 years.
- Buttons and zips
- Button type and size, spare buttons inside, and the zip slider type. State the button pull test and force your buyers require, so the seller tests to it.
- Cords and decorations
- List every cord, tie, pom-pom, tassel and appliqué, or state that there are none. Cords decide which parts of EN 14682 or the US drawstring rule apply.
- Yarn and fibre
- Fibre blend, count and any brushed or raised finish. For the US, fibre, fabric weight and surface decide whether a flammability test is needed.
- Weight, wash and marks
- The approved sample weight per size, the wash finish, which sets shrinkage on cotton and acrylic, and, for the US, the permanent tracking marks on garment and packaging.
Children's safety rules and tests for kids' sweaters
- EN 14682
- Safety of children's clothing: cords and drawstrings, up to age 14. It does not cover gloves, hats or scarves, and CEN/TR 17376 answers questions on applying it.
- CPSIA and 15 U.S.C. 2063
- Lead limits for children 12 and under; 16 CFR 1500.91 clears textiles with no treatment but dye, wood, shell and stainless steel, not plastic or base-metal trims or prints. Third-party tests and certification precede import.
- 16 CFR Part 1610
- US clothing flammability. Fabrics made entirely of acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester or wool are exempt from testing, as are plain-surface fabrics of 2.6 ounces per square yard or more.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100, product class 1
- For babies and children up to 3 years, with stricter limits than adult classes, covering every thread, button and accessory. Check it on the OEKO-TEX Label Check.
Lead times and delivery
Build the timetable around approvals and tests: lab dips, then a sample with the trim list signed off, then bulk. For US children's products covered by a safety rule, third-party testing and certification come before import, so book the lab early. For sale in Bangladesh, plan for stock before December, when the cool season starts. Roptan confirms sample and bulk dates and the minimum order in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, children's jumpers sell in the cool season, December to February, so plan stock to arrive before December. Roptan delivers to your warehouse or shops, folded and bagged by size, with the packing list, inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying kids' sweaters for export
Kids' sweaters for a body height above 86 cm fall under HS heading 6110, split by fibre; smaller sizes go to 6111. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, with commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, origin papers and the test reports, certificate and tracking marks your market requires.
Questions buyers ask
Which age limits apply to a kids' sweater?
Each rule has its own. EN 14682 covers children up to 14; US children's products are those for 12 and under; the US drawstring rule runs from size 2T to 16; OEKO-TEX class 1 covers up to 3; at customs, 86 cm or less is babywear.
Does the US small parts rule cover buttons on kids' sweaters?
No. 16 CFR 1501.3 exempts children's clothing and accessories, buttons included, from the small parts regulation. Buyers still set their own button pull tests, so state the test and force you use, and we check the seller tests to it.
Does a kids' acrylic sweater need a US flammability test?
Usually not. 16 CFR Part 1610 exempts fabrics made entirely of acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester or wool from testing. A cotton or blended knit under 2.6 ounces per square yard, or with a raised surface, may need it, so state fibre and finish.
Do you supply baby sweaters too?
Yes, under babywear. Garments for young children of 86 cm body height or less are babies' garments, heading 6111, so baby cardigans and jumpers sit in that category. Tell us the size range and we source from sellers who knit babywear.
How soon will I hear back about sweaters and knitwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
