Buying cardigans in Bangladesh
A cardigan is a knitted top that opens at the front, worn like a light jacket. It may close with buttons or a zip, or hang open, and runs from cropped to well below the hip. Importers buy cardigans for women's, men's and children's ranges; in Bangladesh they mostly sell from December to February.
The front is where a cardigan differs from a pullover: separate bands, buttonholes, buttons or a zip, each a step where faults start. Roptan matches your style to a verified seller that knits cardigans, approves bands, trims and shade on the sample, then checks fastenings and trim reports on the bulk.
How to brief a cardigan manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Front and fastening
- Buttons, zip or open front; button count, size and material; and the buttonhole side, traditionally left on men's garments and right on women's.
- Front band
- Bands and plackets are knitted as separate pieces and linked on. Ask how the band is reinforced behind buttons or a zip, since it carries the strain of fastening.
- Yarn, gauge and weight
- Fibre blend and count, gauge in needles per inch, and the approved sample weight per size, from which the yarn line of the quote is costed.
- Shade across parts
- Neck trim and front bands are knitted on separate machines from the body. Approve a lab dip from your swatch, and require every part from the same yarn lot.
- Trims and label market
- Name any metal buttons, snaps or zips, and any non-textile trim of animal origin: each brings its own test or EU label wording.
Tests and labels for cardigans
- EN 1811 and REACH entry 27
- Nickel release from metal in direct and prolonged skin contact, for REACH Annex XVII entry 27. Ask for reports on metal buttons, snaps and zips for the EU.
- Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
- Fibres by name and percentage in descending order, plus the words 'Contains non-textile parts of animal origin' when such trims are present.
- 16 CFR Parts 303, 300 and 423
- US rules on fibre content, wool labelling and care labels, which must be easy to find at sale. Under Part 423, care symbols used in place of words follow ASTM D5489.
- CPSIA lead limits
- Apply to US cardigans for children 12 and under. 16 CFR 1500.91 clears textiles with no treatment but dye, wood, shell and stainless steel; plastic or base-metal trims and screen prints need their own evidence.
Lead times and delivery
Plan from the approvals: a lab dip for each colour, then a sample on which you approve weight, measurements, bands, buttons and buttonholes. In bulk, buttonholing and button attaching are finishing steps after knitting and linking, so buttons must be in hand before finishing starts. For sale in Bangladesh, count back from December. Roptan confirms sample and bulk dates and the minimum order in the quote.
Cardigans are pressed to size on templates, then folded, tagged and bagged. For sale inside Bangladesh, plan for stock to land before December, when the cool season starts. Roptan delivers to your warehouse or shops with the packing list, inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying cardigans for export
Cardigans share HS heading 6110 with pullovers, split by fibre at six digits. Baby cardigans for a body height of 86 cm or less fall under 6111, babies' garments. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, with commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, origin papers and the test reports your market needs.
Questions buyers ask
Which side should the buttonholes go on?
Traditionally on the left for men's garments and on the right for women's, so the fronts overlap the expected way. A unisex range needs one choice for every size. Put the side on the tech pack, so the sample and the bulk match.
Do metal buttons on a cardigan need a nickel test for the EU?
Often, yes. EN 1811 tests nickel release from articles in direct and prolonged skin contact, under REACH Annex XVII entry 27. Whether a button or zip counts depends on how it touches the skin, so ask for a report on metal trims.
Is a baby cardigan coded as a cardigan at customs?
Not when it is made for a body height of 86 cm or less: those garments fall under heading 6111, babies' garments, not 6110. In British English a baby's short cardigan is called a matinee jacket. State the size range when you ask for a quote.
When should cardigans for sale in Bangladesh arrive?
Before December. The cool season runs from December to February; January, the coolest month, averages about 16 to 20 °C across most of the country. Cardigans sell in that window, so count back from December with the quoted lead time.
How soon will I hear back about sweaters and knitwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
