Buying food storage containers in Bangladesh
Food storage containers are reusable boxes with lids for the fridge, freezer, pantry and lunch bag. Most are injection moulded in polypropylene, with clear PET or polystyrene for cold display. Retailers and supermarkets in Bangladesh stock them, caterers and hotels buy them for kitchens, and importers buy them for retail abroad.
Each word on a box, such as freezer, microwave or dishwasher, is a claim that needs its own test. When you choose a food storage container manufacturer in Bangladesh, ask how each claim was tested. Roptan sources from verified moulders, matches each printed claim to a lab report, and checks box, lid and seal.
How to brief a food storage container manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Capacity and parts
- Give capacity in ml for each size, and the resin and grade for box, lid and seal separately.
- Printed claims
- List every claim for the box or pack: freezer, microwave, dishwasher. Each one sets the test class the report must use.
- Repeated use
- Boxes are reused, so the EU test runs three times on one sample with fresh simulant. The third result counts, and migration must not rise between runs.
- Foods it will hold
- Tomato, pickles and citrus below pH 4.5 call for 3 % acetic acid; oily foods for vegetable oil; watery foods for 10 % ethanol. Name the foods.
- Seal material
- Silicone and rubber fall outside the EU plastics regulation, which leaves them to other measures, so the seal needs its own compliance statement.
- Recycled resin
- For the EU, recycled plastic in a food box must come from an authorised recycling technology under Regulation (EU) 2022/1616. Say whether any is allowed.
Food-contact rules for plastic containers
- Regulation (EU) 2024/3190
- Bans BPA in plastic food-contact articles. The transition for repeat-use final articles ended on 20 July 2026, so polycarbonate boxes need a BPA-free statement or another resin.
- Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and EN 1186
- Overall migration of no more than 10 mg per dm² of contact surface, with test methods in the EN 1186 series.
- 21 CFR 177.1520, 177.1630 and 177.1640
- US sections for PP and PE, for PET and for polystyrene. Ask for the resin maker's letter naming the grade and the section.
- BDS 1959:2019 and BDS 1976:2020
- BSTI's test methods for plastic containers and for overall migration. No mandatory BSTI mark for general plastic food containers was found.
Lead times and delivery
Dates depend on whether moulds already exist for your sizes, on the resin and colours, and on the tests. Each temperature class, simulant and three-run repeat test adds lab time, and a separate seal needs its own papers. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order per size in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers sets or single sizes to retailers, warehouses, caterers and hotels in Dhaka, Chattogram and elsewhere. Each delivery carries the packing list, the lab reports for each claim on the box, and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying food storage containers for export
For importers Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram. For the EU, a box sold empty carries the food-contact indication, safe-use instructions where needed and a traceability mark, in a language the buyer's customers understand. For Japan, the seller should match resins and additives to Japan's Positive List. Documents include the declaration of compliance, lab reports, certificate of origin and the seller's ERC.
Questions buyers ask
Can polycarbonate food boxes still go to the EU?
Not if they are made with BPA. Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 bans BPA in plastic food-contact articles, and the transition for repeat-use final articles ended on 20 July 2026. Choose PP or another resin made without BPA, and ask the seller to state it in the declaration of compliance.
Does a microwave-safe box need its own test?
Yes. In the EU, migration tests run at set times and temperatures, and the report must cover the hottest use printed on the box. Test OM2, for example, covers long storage after hot filling and heating to 70 °C for 2 hours or 100 °C for 15 minutes; longer or hotter reheating needs OM4 or OM5, at 100 °C or above.
Is the silicone seal covered by the box's paperwork?
No. Silicone and rubber are outside the EU plastics regulation, which leaves them to other measures, so the seal needs its own compliance statement. Ask for it with the box declaration, and test the box with its lid and seal fitted as sold.
Is there a BSTI standard for plastic food boxes?
None was found among BSTI's mandatory certification marks for general plastic food containers. BSTI does list test methods for plastic containers, BDS 1959:2019, and an overall migration method, BDS 1976:2020, which a local lab can use. Export orders follow the importing market's rules.
How soon will I hear back about plastic household goods?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
