Buying buckets and tubs in Bangladesh
A bucket is a watertight, open-topped container with a carrying handle; a tub or basin is wider and lower. With a sealed lid, sold to carry goods, a bucket is usually called a pail. Most are injection moulded in polypropylene or polyethylene, and households, shops, hotels and cleaning contractors buy them in Bangladesh.
Two buckets of the same size can hold different amounts of resin, which is why buyers set minimum weights. Before you settle on a buckets and tub manufacturer in Bangladesh, fix weights and tests in writing. Roptan sources from verified moulders, weighs and tests the sample, and inspects the bulk.
How to brief a buckets and tub manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Capacity and size
- State the minimum capacity in litres, the height, and the top and bottom diameters as ranges, so every bucket in the lot nests and fits its lid.
- Weight per part
- Give a minimum weight in grams for bucket, lid and handle separately, and for each resin you accept.
- Resin
- PP is typically stiffer and resists creep more than polyethylene; polyethylene can crack under load when detergents act on it, which matters for cleaning buckets.
- Rim and base
- Ask for a reinforced top that stops the rim going oval, a reinforced base ridge, and a curved join inside between base and wall for easy cleaning.
- Outdoor use
- Plain PP cracks and crazes in sunlight unless it carries UV-absorbing additives and antioxidants. State outdoor use and ask for the stabiliser grade.
- Packing
- State buckets per carton, nesting and stack load, and packing that stops buckets pressing into one another and jamming in transit.
Standards and tests for plastic buckets
- BDS 772:1970 and BDS 1959:2019
- BSTI lists a 1970 standard for polyethylene containers and a 2019 set of test methods for plastic containers. Ask the seller which clauses they test to.
- BSTI mandatory list
- No household bucket standard was found among BSTI's mandatory certification marks. Rotational moulded water storage tanks, BDS 1699:2002, are on it, but they are tanks.
- Resin tests
- Melt flow rate to ISO 1133-1 and Izod impact to ISO 180, compared with the datasheet, help show whether the quoted resin was used.
- Food contact and colour
- For food use, Regulation (EU) 10/2011 or 21 CFR 177.1520 apply. For the EU, cadmium in the plastic must stay below 0.01 % by weight.
Lead times and delivery
Dates depend on whether a mould already exists for your size, on resin supply and colour, and on the tests you set. A new mould, a special colour or a filled drop test at an outside lab adds time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers nested buckets and tubs, counted by carton, to warehouses, shops, hotels and project stores in Dhaka, Chattogram and elsewhere. Each lot carries the packing list, the weight and test results from inspection and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying buckets and tubs for export
For importers Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram. Buckets nest, so the carton count and nesting height decide how many fit a container. Household buckets and tubs usually fall under tariff heading 3924; your broker confirms the line. Documents include the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, the seller's ERC and the inspection report to ISO 2859-1 when you set an AQL.
Questions buyers ask
How should a plastic bucket be drop tested?
Filled and closed, not empty. One buyer's inspection sheet, for example, fills a 14 litre bucket with water, fits the lid and drops it twice from 2 m onto smooth concrete; it must not break, and the lid opening does not count as a failure. Set your own height and ask for results at it.
PP or HDPE for buckets?
Both work. PP is typically stiffer and resists creep, which helps a bucket keep its shape under load. Polyethylene can stress-crack when detergents act on a loaded bucket. Either needs UV stabiliser for outdoor use. One buyer's sheet accepts both, with a separate minimum weight for each resin.
How strong should the handle be?
Set it in the brief. One buyer's sheet, for example, bends the handle 100 times and pulls it with 28 kg in the carrying position. Name the handle material too, plastic or metal, since it changes the test. Roptan has your chosen tests run on the sample.
How are buckets packed for export?
Agree it in the order. One buyer's sheet, for example, asks for 20 buckets and lids per carton, handles clipped on, in 5-ply export cartons with reinforced corners, packed so buckets do not jam together. State your carton count and Roptan agrees it with the seller.
How soon will I hear back about plastic household goods?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
