Buying cream biscuits in Bangladesh
A cream biscuit is a sandwich: two thin, hard biscuits with a filling between them. The filling may be vanilla or milk cream, chocolate, custard, jam or nut cream, and it decides the taste, the allergens and how the biscuit ages. Shops, distributors, offices and importers buy them, often under their own label.
Most cream biscuit faults appear weeks after packing: a soft shell, an oily cream. A cream biscuit manufacturer in Bangladesh should prove the pair holds up in storage, so Roptan sources from verified plants, fixes shell, cream share and filling fat in writing, and asks for storage results before bulk.
How to specify a cream biscuit
- Shell type
- Semi-sweet or short dough, with shape and thickness. Say if you mean wafer sheets instead: that is a different product and plant.
- Cream share
- The shell-to-cream ratio by weight per piece, with a tolerance. It sets sweetness and cost, so fix it in writing.
- Filling fat and oil loss
- The fat in the filling and a hold test at your storage temperature. Research on fillings measures oil lost after storage as the quality target.
- Water activity and moisture
- Filling water activity and shell moisture, measured after storage as well as at packing, since water moves from the cream into the shell.
- Shape and size
- Round or square, with the diameter or side in millimetres and the shell thickness. Each shape needs its own cutter or mould, so fix it before the first sample.
- Allergens
- Wheat in the shell, plus milk, soy, peanut or tree nuts from the filling. US labels may use a 'Contains' statement beside the ingredients.
Licences, rules and tests for cream biscuits
- BSTI licence
- Biscuits are on BSTI's mandatory certification list as BDS 383:2001, and BSTI treats selling a listed product without the CM licence as a punishable offence. Check the licence covers the cream line.
- Regulation (EU) 2017/2158
- Its acrylamide benchmark levels apply to the baked shells; the cream is a separate recipe. Benchmark levels are not legal limits, but EU importers ask for results.
- Regulation (EU) 2019/649
- Caps industrial trans fat at 2 g per 100 g of fat in EU food for the final consumer. Hydrogenated shortenings are the main source, and many creams are fat-rich, so test the whole biscuit.
- US allergen rules
- The US lists nine major food allergens since sesame was added from 1 January 2023. A US label must declare each one present.
Lead times and delivery
A plant's own cream biscuit in its own pack moves fastest. A new filling flavour takes longer: trial batches, a storage test that needs time to run, artwork, printed film and a pre-production sample come before bulk. Export lab tests add more. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per flavour in the quote.
Roptan delivers inside Bangladesh by the carton or the truckload to distributors, shops, offices and canteens, with batch codes and expiry dates on every carton, lab reports where ordered and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Keep stock cool, dry and out of the sun on the way and in store.
Buying cream biscuits for export
For importers Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram or CFR. Cream biscuits have no HS line of their own, so your customs broker confirms whether yours is declared as a sweet biscuit or under the residual bakers' wares line before the first shipment. A US importer must verify the plant's preventive controls under the Food Safety Modernization Act, so we collect those records with the batch reports.
Questions buyers ask
Why do cream biscuit shells go soft?
Water moves from the part with the higher water activity to the one with the lower. The cream usually holds more water than the crisp shell, so the shell slowly softens in the pack. A drier filling, a better film barrier and a storage test before approval keep it in check.
Can the filling be something other than cream?
Yes. Sandwich biscuits use cream, buttercream, chocolate, jam, lemon curd, peanut butter and other fillings. Each changes the allergens and the water in the centre, so treat a new filling as a new product with its own sample and storage test.
Should I choose round or square shells?
Either works, so follow what your market already buys and what your pack format needs. Each shape needs its own mould or cutter, and a change after the first sample means new tooling and a new sample, so decide early and send a reference picture of the shell you want.
Does the acrylamide rule apply to the cream?
The EU benchmark levels are for the baked part, so they apply to the shells. The cream is unbaked and is a separate recipe. Ask for acrylamide results on the shells, and agree a light colour range, since a darker bake usually carries more.
How soon will I hear back about biscuits and bakery?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
