Buying containerised STP in Bangladesh
A containerised STP is a sewage treatment plant whose tanks, blowers and panel are fitted inside a steel shipping container, usually a 20 or 40 foot box. The process inside is usually the same as in a packaged plant, commonly extended aeration. Contractors, camps, temporary works and sites on leased land in Bangladesh choose it because it arrives in one lift and can be lifted out again.
A containerised STP supplier in Bangladesh has to answer two sets of questions: the treatment process and the steel box. We have verified sellers quote to one design basis, check the container's condition, coating and openings, and deliver the plant. The seller places, connects and commissions it. You can also post the requirement on our board.
How to specify a containerised STP
- Flow and population
- State users and daily flow. One common definition takes 1 PE as 60 g of BOD and 200 litres a day; the seller should state the figures it used.
- Box size and height
- Name 20 or 40 foot and standard or high cube. The box sets the largest tank, the truck and the crane lift.
- Coating, insulation and air
- Moist air condenses on steel walls and rusts them unless the steel is sealed and insulated, and steel passes heat. Ask how the box is coated, insulated and ventilated.
- Openings and roof loads
- Container ends are strong and the roof is not. If openings are cut or equipment sits on the roof, ask the seller for the structural check.
- Controls and oxygen
- Ask for alarms on blower and pump faults and a dissolved oxygen reading of about 2 mg/L in the aeration tank at handover.
Standards and papers for a containerised STP supplier in Bangladesh
- ECR 2023 outlet limits
- A camp or site plant meets the same Environment Conservation Rules 2023 limits as a fixed one. The design basis should state the limits that apply.
- ISO 668, ISO 1496-1 and ISO 1161
- Cover container sizes, cargo container testing and corner fittings. They describe a cargo box, so they do not certify a converted treatment plant.
- EN 12255-12
- The European standard on control and automation of treatment plants. Use it as a checklist for the panel, alarms and level sensors.
- ISO/IEC 17025 lab tests
- Outlet samples go to an accredited lab, with BOD measured to ISO 5815-1. The BOD result takes five days.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on the order, so Roptan gives dates per plant, not a standard figure. An imported unit takes longer for sea freight and customs clearance at Chattogram. Conversion work on the box, coating and insulation adds time, and so does a late base or crane booking. Start-up then waits for the biology to settle. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.
We deliver the container by truck to your site anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller lifts it onto a level base, connects inlet, outlet and power, seeds the plant and runs it until the outlet meets the agreed limits. Handover covers the drawings, lab reports, operating manual, lifting points and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Is a containerised STP different inside from a packaged plant?
Usually not in the treatment. The process inside is the same kind as in a packaged plant, commonly extended aeration, with the same need for oxygen, sludge removal and a trained operator. The difference is the box: its size limits the tanks, and its steel needs coating, insulation and air.
Can the plant be moved to another site later?
Usually yes, which is why sites on leased land choose it. The plant is drained, disconnected and lifted by its corner fittings, so they must stay intact. At the new site it needs a level base, new connections and a fresh start-up of the biology.
Will a steel container plant rust in Bangladesh?
It will if the steel is left bare. In humid air, moisture condenses on the inside of the walls and forms rust, and steel passes heat. Ask for a sealed coating, insulation and ventilation, and include a coating inspection in the service visits.
Is a containerised STP certified because it is an ISO container?
No. ISO 668 and ISO 1496-1 describe cargo containers, and a box converted to hold tanks and blowers is no longer a plain cargo box. Judge the plant on its design basis, the outlet test results and the seller's structural check.
How soon will I hear back about STP?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
