Buying roofing sheets and building panels in Bangladesh

Factories, warehouses, cold stores, poultry and dairy sheds, schools, shops and homes buy roofing sheets and building panels across Bangladesh, from sheds in Gazipur and Ashulia to Chattogram (Chittagong) and the coastal districts. Galvanised corrugated (CI) sheet still roofs much of the country, colour coated sheet is growing in towns and cities, sandwich panels build insulated sheds and cold rooms, polycarbonate lets in daylight and gypsum board lines ceilings and partitions.

A roofing sheet supplier in Bangladesh often quotes by gauge and colour; what decides the life of a roof is base metal thickness, coating and fixing. Tell us the area, the use and the site. We turn it into one specification, source from verified sellers, check the certificate for each lot and deliver. Fixing can be arranged through the seller. You deal with Roptan only.

Roofing sheets and building panels we source

Colour coated profile sheets

Steel sheet with a zinc or zinc-aluminium coating and a paint layer on top, roll-formed into trapezoidal or tile profiles for factory roofs, walls and houses. Specify base metal thickness, coating, paint type and colour, profile and sheet lengths.

Galvanised corrugated sheets

Corrugated iron, or CI, sheet is steel with a zinc coating in the familiar wave profile, low in first cost and widely used for homes and sheds. A zinc, aluminium and silicon coating is also sold and protects the steel from oxidation at a reasonable cost.

EPS sandwich panels

Two steel skins bonded to an expanded polystyrene core, used for site offices, partitions, clean rooms and low-cost insulated sheds. EPS is combustible, so check the panel's fire classification and the building's fire plan before choosing it.

PU and rockwool sandwich panels

PU or PIR foam cores give higher insulation for cold rooms and stores. A rockwool core, a mineral wool, resists fire and suits fire walls and plants with a fire risk. Ask for core type, density, thickness and the fire class.

Polycarbonate sheets

Multiwall and solid polycarbonate sheets for skylights, walkway covers and greenhouses. The co-extruded UV layer must face outward; fitted upside down, the sheet loses its UV protection. State thickness, colour, sheet size and light transmission.

Gypsum boards and plaster

Paper-faced gypsum boards fixed to steel frames for ceilings and partitions, with water-resistant boards for wet areas. Gypsum plaster and plaster of Paris come as powder in bags for finishing and cornices. State board type, thickness and frame system.

What to tell a roofing sheet supplier in Bangladesh

Base metal thickness in mm
Gauge numbers vary between sellers. State the base metal thickness before coating, and ask for it on the mill test certificate.
Coating type and mass
Zinc or zinc-aluminium, with the coating mass in g/m2 on the certificate. Coastal and humid sites call for a heavier coating or a painted sheet.
Profile, lengths and cover width
Give the profile, sheet lengths cut to the roof slope and the cover width, so the order covers the area with fewer end laps.
Wind, cyclone and fixing
BNBC 2020 sets wind loads by location. Purlin spacing, screw type and the number of fixings must suit your site, more so near the coast.
Heat and insulation
Bare sheet roofs get hot in summer. Say the inside temperature you need; a sandwich panel or insulation under the sheet changes the choice.
Building use and fire
Cold stores, godowns and factories need an FSCD fire licence. State the use so the panel core and its fire class suit the building.
Daylight, ceilings and wet areas
Mark where polycarbonate sheets go, and the ceiling and partition areas in gypsum board, with any wet rooms.
Accessories in the same quote
Ridge caps, flashings, gutters, self-drilling screws with sealing washers and sealant, priced with the sheets.

Standards and papers for roofing sheets and panels

EN 14509 for sandwich panels
Covers factory-made, self-supporting double skin metal-faced insulating panels for roofs, walls, partitions and cold stores, with cores such as PUR, PIR, EPS and mineral wool. Ask for the test report.
Fire class under EN 13501-1
The European reaction to fire classification. Ask for the class of the exact panel and core, with its report, and plan the building's fire safety with your engineer.
EN 16153 for multiwall polycarbonate
The European standard for multiwall polycarbonate sheets for roofs, walls and ceilings. Ask for the datasheet, the maker's load tables and the UV side marked on the sheet.
ASTM C1396 for gypsum board
The US specification for paper-faced gypsum board, including wallboard, water-resistant and ceiling board. Ask which standard the board is made to and for its test results.
Mill test certificate for steel sheet
For each lot: base metal thickness, coating mass and paint system. We also check whether the product falls under BSTI mandatory certification, and if so ask for the licence.

What moves the price of roofing sheets and panels

  • Base metal thickness: a thicker sheet uses more steel per square metre and costs more.
  • Coating and paint: zinc-aluminium, heavier coatings and better paint systems cost more and last longer.
  • Steel prices: sheet follows the price of steel coil, so world steel prices and the exchange rate move sheet prices.
  • Panel core and thickness: PU and rockwool cores cost more than EPS, and thicker cores cost more.
  • Accessories and fixing: flashings, ridges, screws and installation are often left out of a sheet price.
  • Transport: long sheets need long trucks, and remote or coastal sites add delivery cost.

Lead times and delivery

Corrugated and colour coated sheets are made in Bangladesh, so standard profiles and colours usually move faster than special colours, long lengths or panels made to order. Imported polycarbonate, panels and boards add shipping and customs clearance. We do not quote a standard lead time: Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each lot in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Dhaka and Gazipur to Khulna and Sylhet, with sheets cut to the lengths on your schedule. Each lot comes with its test certificate, a delivery note checked against the order, and a weighbridge slip where sheet is sold by weight. Fixing can be arranged through the seller. You receive the coating or paint warranty where offered and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and source of materialA current trade licence in the quoted name, and the mill or importer the sheet, coil or panel comes from.
  • A test certificate per lotThickness, coating mass and paint, or the panel core and fire report, for each lot, not one certificate for every delivery.
  • Weighbridge record on deliveryFor sheet sold by weight, a weighbridge slip for every truck, checked against the order and the invoice.
  • A delivery schedule agreedDates and cut lengths fixed in the quote, not after it, so the roofing crew is not left waiting on site.

Questions buyers ask

Colour coated sheet or plain CI sheet: which should I buy?

Plain galvanised CI sheet costs less at first and serves many sheds and homes. Colour coated sheet adds a paint layer over the metal coating, a second barrier against weather, and demand for it is growing in towns and cities. On coastal and humid sites choose a heavier coating or a painted sheet, and compare thickness, not gauge.

What is the difference between EPS, PU and rockwool panels?

All three are sandwich panels with steel skins. EPS is light and economical for offices and partitions. PU or PIR gives higher insulation for the same thickness and suits cold stores. Rockwool resists fire and is chosen where fire risk is high. Ask for the fire class under EN 13501-1 and the core density with every quote.

Why is my sheet thinner than the gauge I ordered?

Gauge is not a fixed thickness, sellers use it differently, and some quote the thickness including the coating. Order by base metal thickness in millimetres, and check it against the mill test certificate and a micrometer reading on delivery. We check this for each lot we source.

Which way up does a polycarbonate sheet go?

With the UV-protected side facing out, usually marked on the protective film. Fitted upside down, the sheet loses its UV protection. Follow the maker's support spacing for your sheet thickness, and fix with screws, sealing washers and oversized holes that leave room for heat expansion.

Do you supply gypsum powder as well as boards?

Yes. Gypsum plaster and plaster of Paris for finishing, cornices and moulding are sourced in bags for Dhaka and the rest of the country. Tell us the use and the quantity, and we confirm the type and setting time with the seller. Boards come in standard and water-resistant types.

How soon will I hear back about roofing sheets and building panels?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
