Buying construction chemicals in Bangladesh

Construction chemicals change how concrete and finishes behave. Admixtures adjust workability and setting, waterproofing keeps roofs, basements and tanks dry, grouts fill under machine bases and column plates, and adhesives and sealants fix tiles and close joints. Buyers include ready-mix plants, contractors in Dhaka and Chattogram (Chittagong), factory builders in Gazipur and Narayanganj, and developers finishing flats.

A construction chemical supplier in Bangladesh may quote a product name and a price per pail with no type, class or standard. Tell us the job, the standard in your specification and the quantity. We source from verified sellers, locally made or imported, check the datasheet, batch and test report for each lot, and deliver to site. You deal with Roptan only.

Construction chemicals we source

Concrete admixtures

Liquids added to the mix to cut water, slow or speed setting, or keep concrete workable. ASTM C494 sorts them into Types A to G; Type F is the high-range water reducer, often called a superplasticiser. Order by type, not trade name.

Waterproofing compounds

Products added to the concrete mix, or applied to roofs, basements, wet rooms and water tanks as a cementitious coating or a membrane. State the surface, whether water presses from the face or from behind, and the thickness.

Cementitious grouts

Factory-packed dry grouts that need only mixing water, used under machine bases, column base plates and anchor bolts where grout must not drop away from the load. ASTM C1107 covers packaged non-shrink cement grout. State gap depth, flow and load.

Tile adhesives

Cement-based adhesives for floor and wall tiles, classed under EN 12004. C1 is normal adhesion and C2 improved; T adds reduced slip, E extended open time and F fast setting. Ask for the full class, such as C2TE S1.

Curing compounds

Liquids sprayed on fresh concrete to form a membrane that cuts water loss while it hardens. White-pigmented compounds usually also reduce heat gain from sun on slabs and roads. ASTM C309 is the usual reference.

Bonding agents and sealants

Epoxy bonding agents join new concrete or mortar to old and are specified under ASTM C881 by type, grade and class. Elastomeric sealants for movement joints, glazing and decks are specified under ASTM C920.

What to tell a construction chemical supplier in Bangladesh

The job and the surface
Where the product goes: slab, roof, basement, water tank, machine base or facade, and the surface, new or old, dry or damp.
Type or class, not a trade name
The ASTM C494 admixture type, the EN 12004 adhesive class, the ASTM C881 type, grade and class, or the ASTM C920 sealant class, so sellers quote like for like.
The cement and the mix
For admixtures, the cement in use, the mix design and the slump you need. Ask for a trial mix with your own cement before the first pour.
Site temperature and rain
Hot weather speeds up drying and setting. Ask for dose ranges proven at site temperature, and agree what happens if rain arrives during a pour.
Area, thickness and movement
The area and thickness or coats for waterproofing, the gap depth and load for grout, and the joint width and movement for sealants.
Quantity, packs and stages
The total in kg, litres or tonnes, the pack size you can handle on site and the delivery dates for each stage of the work.

Standards and documents for construction chemicals

ASTM C494 and EN 934-2 for admixtures
ASTM C494 sets Types A to G for chemical admixtures. EN 934-2 covers admixtures for plain, reinforced and prestressed concrete, with conformity and marking rules. Ask which one the product was tested to.
EN 12004 for tile adhesives
Classes adhesives by adhesion: C1 at least 0.5 MPa tensile adhesion, C2 at least 1.0 MPa, with T, E and F options and S1 or S2 deformability under EN 12002.
ASTM C1107 and ASTM C309
C1107 covers packaged dry non-shrink hydraulic-cement grout; C309 covers liquid membrane-forming curing compounds. Ask for a test report to the edition your specification names, not a withdrawn one.
ASTM C881 and ASTM C920
C881 covers epoxy-resin bonding systems for concrete; C920 covers elastomeric joint sealants. ASTM notes that not every sealant meeting C920 suits every substrate.
Datasheet, lot test report and SDS
A technical datasheet naming the standard, a test report from an accredited lab for the lot, and a safety data sheet to GHS for every product.

What moves the price of construction chemicals

  • Chemistry: high-range water reducers, epoxies and polymer-modified products usually cost more than plain cement-based ones.
  • Class: a C2 adhesive or a sealant with a higher movement class costs more than the basic class.
  • Dose and coverage: a price per kg means little until you compare dose or coverage per square metre.
  • Origin: locally made, imported and repackaged products carry different freight, duty and storage risk.
  • Pack size: bulk drums and tanks for ready-mix plants usually cost less per litre than small pails.
  • Testing: lot test reports and trial mixes add cost and protect the pour.

Lead times and delivery

Delivery depends on whether the product is held in stock in Bangladesh, made to order locally or imported, and imports add shipping and customs clearance at Chattogram. Large project orders need a schedule that follows the pour and finishing programme. We do not quote a standard lead time or minimum: Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each order in the quote.

We deliver to sites, plants and stores across Bangladesh. Packs are checked on delivery against the order for product, quantity, batch number and manufacture date, and bulk loads are weighed. Where agreed, we arrange a demonstration of application on site through the seller. You receive the lot test report, the safety data sheet, a delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and source of materialA current trade licence in the quoted name, and whether the product is made locally, imported or repackaged, with the maker shown on the pack.
  • A test report per lotA test report naming the standard and edition for each lot, with batch number and manufacture date, not one certificate for every delivery.
  • Weighbridge record on deliveryA weighbridge record for every truck of bulk material, and a pack count against the order for drums, pails and bags.
  • A delivery schedule agreedDates and quantities for each stage fixed in the quote, not after it, so pours and finishing work are not held up.

Questions buyers ask

Which admixture type do I need for ready-mix concrete?

It depends on the mix. Under ASTM C494, Type A reduces water, Type D reduces water and retards setting, and Type F, the high-range water reducer, keeps a low-water mix flowing. Send the mix design, the cement and the slump you need, and ask for a trial mix.

What does a tile adhesive class like C2TE S1 mean?

C is cement-based and 2 is improved adhesion, at least 1.0 MPa under EN 12004. T is reduced slip, E extended open time, and S1 deformable under EN 12002. Ask for the full class on the bag and datasheet so quotes compare like for like.

Is a non-shrink grout the same as a site mix of sand and cement?

No. A packaged non-shrink grout is a factory blend of hydraulic cement, fine aggregate and other ingredients that needs only water, and ASTM C1107 sets its performance tests. A site mix has no such test behind it, so ask for the grout's test report first.

How do I protect fresh concrete in hot weather or rain?

Plan before the pour. ACI 305R, the US guide to hot weather concreting, notes that high temperature, low humidity and wind speed up drying and raise the risk of plastic shrinkage cracking. A retarding admixture, ASTM C494 Type B or D, extends working time. Start curing early, and agree how the slab is covered if rain arrives.

Can you supply a full waterproofing system for a roof?

Yes. Tell us the roof area, slope and drainage, and whether it is new or old. We source the primer, coating or membrane and protection layer as one system from one seller, check the datasheets and lot test reports, and arrange application through the seller or your contractor.

How soon will I hear back about construction chemicals?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
