Buying rompers in Bangladesh

A romper is a one-piece baby garment with short or long legs that opens at the crotch and often down the front, usually with snaps. Importers, baby shops and gift retailers buy rompers as everyday and gift wear for babies and toddlers, mostly in cotton knit and sometimes in woven cotton.

US romper recalls have turned on small parts: snaps that pull off, graphics that peel at the knee. So when Roptan places your order with a romper manufacturer in Bangladesh, we write snap, print and lab tests into it and check the bulk before it moves.

Kinds of romper

Long-leg knit rompers

Full length, opening down the front and along the crotch and inner legs with snaps, often with contrast knit trim at the neck, cuffs and legs. Choose it as an everyday all-in-one.

Short-leg rompers

Short legs and a snap crotch, in cotton knit or woven cotton, sometimes with buttons part-way down the front. Choose it when one style must run from infant into toddler sizes.

Strap rompers

Sleeveless, on shoulder straps that fasten with buttons. A 2017 US recall of infant rompers followed strap buttons that could detach, so have every strap button attachment-tested on bulk pieces.

Printed and appliqué rompers

Rompers with a print, transfer or appliqué. A 2021 US recall involved knee graphics that could peel off, so choose sewn appliqués or wash-tested transfers and keep decoration off the knees.

How to brief a romper manufacturer in Bangladesh

Openings and snaps
Where the romper opens (front, crotch, inner legs, shoulders), the snaps at each place, metal or plastic. Every snap is a part to buy, set, test and inspect.
Fabric and weight
Single jersey, interlock, rib or woven cotton, with fibre and GSM. Single jersey usually runs 120 to 220 GSM; interlock is thicker and more stable.
Sizes
European baby sizes usually follow height and US sizes weight, often shown as an age: size 6 months fits about 61 to 67 cm. Send body measurements per size.
Prints and trims
How each graphic is attached: printed, transferred or sewn. Ask for ISO 105-C06 wash fastness on contrast trim as well as the body.
Labels for the EU
EU Regulation 2023/988 asks for a type or batch number, the maker's name, postal and electronic address, and an EU-based responsible operator.

Snap, print and chemical tests for rompers

CEN/TS 17394 (Europe)
Checks that small parts stay on children's clothing: Part 2 (now EN 17394-2) for sewn buttons, Part 3 for metal press fasteners, Part 4 for other parts after an aggressive wash.
US lead limits
In the US, snaps and other accessible parts may hold at most 100 ppm lead, screen prints and other surface coatings 90 ppm; plain dyed fabric is exempt. A CPSC-accepted lab tests them.
EN 1811 and EN 16711-3 (EU)
For metal snaps under EU REACH: EN 1811 for nickel release, EN 16711-3 for lead released into artificial saliva. Ask for both on each snap lot.
REACH Annex XVII entry 51 (EU)
DEHP, DBP, BBP and DIBP together must stay below 0.1% by weight of plasticised material, inks and printed designs included, so a PVC plastisol print is in scope.

What moves the price of a romper

  • Snap count: a romper opening down the front and both legs carries more snaps than a short-leg one.
  • Fabric: knit, fibre and GSM, and cotton prices, since Bangladeshi mills mostly import their cotton.
  • Decoration: all-over prints, extra colours and sewn appliqués each add steps and a sample.
  • Lab tests: lead, nickel and phthalate reports per snap lot and per print weigh on small runs.

Lead times and delivery

Roptan gives the dates and the minimum in the quote, after the seller has seen your style. Three things set them: how many sample rounds the style needs, whether the fabric is knitted and dyed to order, and the lab work. For the US, snaps and printed parts are tested at a CPSC-accepted lab, and a failed test must be investigated before the goods can be certified. Ask whether a minimum counts per style, colour or size.

Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your warehouse or shops in any city, cartoned by size and colour, singly or in multi-packs. Each delivery carries the packing list, lab reports for fabric, snaps and prints, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying rompers for export

Cotton rompers for babies ship under HS 611120 when knitted and 620920 when woven; your broker confirms the national line. Those headings stop at 86 cm body height, so a run into toddler sizes can split across two lines. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram; sea freight usually takes about three to five weeks to US and EU ports.

What we check for this order

  • Snap attachment on bulkWe have bulk rompers tested for snap attachment after washing, to CEN/TS 17394-3 or your buyer's method.
  • Reports match the snap lotWe check that the lead and nickel reports name the snap lot used in your order, not an older sample.
  • Prints after a washWe look at washed pieces for prints and appliqués that peel or lift, knees and seat first.
  • Final inspectionAt the ISO 2859-1 inspection we open and close the snaps on sampled rompers and measure each size against your chart.

Questions buyers ask

Do rompers sold in the US need a flammability test?

A daywear romper is not children's sleepwear. In the US, one sold for sleep or lounging falls under 16 CFR 1615 or 1616 unless it is an infant garment or tight-fitting under those rules. Exempt garments still meet the general clothing standard, 16 CFR 1610.

Which snaps should we ask for on a romper?

State the snap type, metal or plastic, size and position. For the US, ask for a lead report on the snaps; for the EU, nickel release to EN 1811 and lead release to EN 16711-3. Then have bulk pieces tested for attachment after washing.

What GSM should a knit romper be?

No romper weight is standard. Single jersey usually runs 120 to 220 GSM across all uses, and interlock is thicker and more stable. Pick the knit and weight for the season and the feel your buyers expect, and approve it on a washed sample.

Can you make the same romper in toddler sizes?

Yes, the seller can grade it up as a playsuit, but plan for two things. Above 86 cm body height it leaves the babies' customs heading, and in Europe EN 14682 cord rules apply to children's clothing up to 14 years, so check any ties.

How soon will I hear back about babywear and kidswear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
