Buying baby sets in Bangladesh

A baby set is two or more pieces sold as one unit: a top and bottom, a layette of garments in a gift bag, or a boxed hat, bib and bootees with bodysuits. Gift retailers, baby shops and importers buy sets for newborn and gift ranges. The pieces are usually cotton knit; some sets add a blanket or rattle.

Each piece in a set is its own garment, with its own pattern, closures, tests and labels. Roptan places your order with a verified baby set manufacturer in Bangladesh, lists every piece in the order, checks each one, and checks the packed set before it ships.

Kinds of baby set

Layettes and baby bundles

Several garments in a gift bag, such as a knit hat, a footless stretch suit, a wrap-front top and elastic-waist pants, sized 0 to 3, 3 to 6 and 6 to 12 months. Choose it for newborn gifting.

Boxed gift sets

Coordinated pieces in a clear-top gift box: hat, bib and bootees as a three-piece set, or with three long-sleeve bodysuits as a six-piece one. Choose it for shelf display.

Top-and-bottom sets

A knit top with rib crew neck and cuffs over an elastic-waist bottom, from infant into toddler sizes. Choose it for daywear or pyjamas; in the US, a set sold for sleep falls under the sleepwear rules unless it is an infant garment or tight-fitting.

Newborn blanket sets

A hat or headband with a blanket and a rattle, keepsake disc or socks, for 0 to 6 months. Choose it for gift shops, knowing the blanket is not a garment and the rattle counts as a toy.

How to brief a baby set manufacturer in Bangladesh

Piece list
Every piece in the set, its fabric, colour and print, and which pieces must match. A set list with a sketch per piece prevents a missing item at packing.
Sizes across pieces
The size of each piece in each set, labelled in months. In the US, a customs 'set' needs garments of corresponding sizes meant to be worn together.
Closures per piece
Zips, neck snaps, wrap snaps, buttons and elastic, piece by piece. In Europe, CEN/TS 17394 has attachment tests for buttons, metal press fasteners and other small parts.
Non-garment items
Name any blanket, rattle, keepsake or bootees. They bring their own rules: in the US a rattle falls under 16 CFR part 1510, and a US ruling classed soled bootees as footwear.
Packaging
Gift bag, clear-top box, inserts and artwork. US customs can class a reusable bag separately from the garments, so cost and declare it as its own item.

Tests and rules for baby sets

Children's Product Certificate (US)
The CPC must identify every finished product it covers, so list each piece in a set. Tracking marks go on each piece and on the box.
16 CFR 1610 (US)
General US clothing flammability. Plain-surface fabrics of 2.6 oz per square yard or more need no test for a guaranty; raised surfaces such as terry, fleece and flannel are tested, and Class 3 is barred.
EN 14682 (Europe)
Cord and drawstring rules for children's clothing up to 14 years. Hats, bibs and shoes are outside it, so the check falls on the garments in the set, not the extras.

What moves the price of a baby set

  • Piece count: each piece adds a pattern, trims, a label and its own line in the test plan.
  • Extras: a blanket, rattle or keepsake brings other materials and other rules.
  • Packaging: clear-top boxes, reusable bags, inserts and printed artwork are parts of their own.
  • Fabric: knit, fibre and weight across pieces, and cotton prices, since Bangladeshi mills mostly import their cotton.

Lead times and delivery

A set is ready when its slowest piece is ready and the packaging has arrived, so Roptan gives one date for the whole set in the quote, with the minimum. Each piece has its own sample approval, its own trims and its own lab tests, and printed boxes or gift bags are ordered alongside the garments. Ask whether the minimum counts per set, per piece style or per colour.

Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers boxed or bagged sets to your stores in any city, cartoned by size with a contents list per carton. You receive the packing list, test reports for each piece, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying baby sets for export

Babies' sets usually ship under HS 6111 when knitted and 6209 when woven, up to 86 cm body height; hats and soled bootees have headings of their own, and your broker confirms each line. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram; transit by sea to US and EU ports is usually about three to five weeks.

What we check for this order

  • Contents per boxAt final inspection we open sampled boxes and count every piece, size and colour against the set list.
  • Pieces side by sideWe compare all pieces of the pre-production set together under the same light, and again at inspection, so matching pieces still match.
  • Reports cover every pieceWe check that the test reports name each garment and extra in the set, not only the main piece.
  • Marks on pieces and boxFor US orders we check the tracking marks on every piece and on the packaging before cartons close.

Questions buyers ask

Does a baby set count as one item at customs?

Not always. In the US, a 'set' means garments of corresponding sizes imported together and meant to be worn together. A pyjama set qualified; a layette of a stretch suit and a top did not and was classed piece by piece. Other countries' tariffs differ.

Do baby pyjama sets need a flammability test in the US?

A two-piece set sized nine months or smaller, with no piece over 40 cm and the size labelled in months, is an infant garment and outside the sleepwear burn test, though it still meets 16 CFR 1610. Larger pyjama sets fall under the US children's sleepwear rules unless they are tight-fitting.

Can a set include a rattle or a blanket?

Yes, but each item follows its own rules. In the US a rattle falls under 16 CFR part 1510, and in a US customs ruling the hat was classed as headgear and the bootees, which had a sewn-on sole, as footwear. The test plan and the certificate must cover each item.

How do you keep the pieces in a set matching?

We have all pieces approved together on the pre-production set, keep it as the standard, and compare bulk pieces against it at inspection. For knitted sets above baby sizes, the HS 'ensemble' rule also expects the same fabric construction, style, colour and composition across pieces.

How soon will I hear back about babywear and kidswear?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
