Buying bibs and accessories in Bangladesh
A bib hangs from the neck over the chest to keep spilled food off clothes, and soaks up drool, for example while a baby is teething. Around it sit the small accessories: knit hats, mittens, bootees and swaddle wraps. Baby shops, gift retailers and importers buy bibs in multi-packs and the accessories alongside.
Small items fail in small ways: a snap that comes off, a backing that peels away, a label that tears loose. Roptan places your order with a verified baby bib and accessories manufacturer in Bangladesh, writes those points into the order, has the parts tested and checks the bulk.
How to brief a baby bib and accessories manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Layers and edges
- Face fabric, second layer or backing, and how the edges are finished, usually with textile binding. Give the finished size and the neck opening.
- Fabric
- Terry for absorbency, where loop length sets how much it holds; cotton rib or jersey for knit bibs; muslin, a plain weave in many weights, for wraps.
- Closures
- Snap type and count, or hook and loop. US recalls of bibs in 2019 and 2026 involved snaps that could detach, so state the snap and its attachment test.
- Labels
- Say how the care label is attached: a 2023 US recall of bandana bibs involved a label that could detach and become a choking hazard.
- Backings and prints
- Name any plastic or laminated backing and any plastisol print, since both are plasticised material for the phthalate rules in the US and EU.
Rules and tests for bibs and accessories
- CEN clothing standards exclude bibs (Europe)
- EN 14682, CEN/TR 16792 and CEN/TS 17394 all exclude child care articles such as bibs. EU general product safety law, Regulation 2023/988, and the chemical rules still apply.
- REACH Annex XVII entry 51 (EU)
- Since July 2020, DEHP, DBP, BBP and DIBP together must stay below 0.1% by weight of plasticised material in articles generally, bib backings and plastisol prints included.
- 16 CFR 1307 phthalates (US)
- No more than 0.1% of eight listed phthalates in plasticised parts of child care articles; CPSC gives plasticised parts on children's bibs as an example.
- US lead limits and small parts
- US limits are 100 ppm lead for snaps and 90 ppm for screen prints and other coatings. Children's clothing accessories and feeding products are exempt from the small-parts rule; detached bib snaps are still recalled.
Lead times and delivery
Bibs and accessories are small, but each style still needs its own sample, and backed bibs need a bond check and, for the US or EU, a phthalate test on the backing before bulk is packed. Hats, mittens and wraps add samples of their own. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote; ask whether a minimum counts per style, per print or per pack.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers bibs and accessories to your warehouse or shops in any city, in packs or singly, cartoned by style and print. Each delivery carries the packing list, lab reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying bibs and accessories for export
Knitted bibs ship as babies' clothing accessories under HS 6111, woven ones under 6209. US rulings have put a baby hat under 6505, soled bootees under 6405 and a swaddle wrap under 6307, so give each its own invoice line. In the EU, packs of identical bibs may carry one fibre label. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram.
Questions buyers ask
Do baby bibs need a fibre label in the EU?
Yes, but not always one per bib. The EU Textile Regulation, No 1007/2011, lets bibs of the same type and fibre composition be sold under one inclusive label, for example on the pack, as long as every buyer can see the fibre content. It must be in the language of each country of sale, and the importer supplies it when the maker is outside the EU.
Which tests do bibs need for the US?
A lead test on snaps and printed or coated parts, and a phthalate test on any plasticised part, such as a plastic backing, at a CPSC-accepted lab. The importer issues the Children's Product Certificate from those reports, so tell us the US is the market.
Are bibs covered by EN 14682?
No. EN 14682 excludes bibs as child care articles, and so do CEN's other clothing safety documents, CEN/TR 16792 and CEN/TS 17394. EU general product safety law still applies, so write your own rules for ties, closures and labels into the order.
Can you supply hats, mittens and swaddles with the bibs?
Yes. Each accessory is specified and tested on its own, and each can sit under its own customs heading: hats as headgear, soled bootees as footwear, swaddle wraps as made-up textiles, and mittens with babies' garments. Your broker confirms the national lines.
How soon will I hear back about babywear and kidswear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
