Buying bodysuits in Bangladesh
A baby bodysuit is a T-shirt-like top that extends below the waist and closes over the crotch with snaps, so it does not ride up and the nappy is easy to reach. It comes sleeveless, short or long sleeved, usually in cotton knit, and sells singly, in multi-packs and in gift sets.
A bodysuit is simple, so buyers judge it on details: a neck that passes the head easily, crotch snaps that hold through washing, fabric that stays soft. Roptan places the order with a verified bodysuit manufacturer in Bangladesh, writes those points into it, has the snaps tested and checks the bulk.
How to brief a bodysuit manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Neck opening
- A lap neck, with overlapping shoulder panels, or snaps at the neck. Babies have large heads and weak head control, so approve the opening per size on a fit sample.
- Crotch closure
- Snap count, type, metal and spacing, and a reinforcing strip under the snaps so quick pulls do not tear the fabric. Say if you want a crotch gusset.
- Fibre and weight
- Usually 120 to 180 GSM for organic cotton and 150 to 200 GSM for cotton with 3 to 5% elastane, in jersey, interlock or rib. Confirm on a washed sample.
- Sizes
- European labels usually follow height, US labels weight; size 6 months fits about 61 to 67 cm. Give body measurements per size, not only the label.
- Capping and shrinkage
- Rib capping at the neck and legs is a separate knit, so ask for shrinkage to ISO 5077 and wash fastness to ISO 105-C06 on capping and body together.
Tests and limits for baby bodysuits
- CEN/TS 17394-3 (Europe)
- Tests how securely metal press fasteners stay on children's clothing. Part 1 sets the requirements for infants' parts small enough to fit the small parts cylinder, such as snaps.
- REACH Annex XVII entry 72 (EU)
- Limits carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic substances in clothing, for example formaldehyde at 75 mg/kg. Non-textile fasteners fall outside it, so snaps need their own tests.
- EN 1811 (EU)
- The reference test for nickel release from metal in prolonged skin contact, under REACH entry 27. A seller's 'nickel-free' snap should come with this report.
- US lead limits and CPC
- In the US, snaps may hold at most 100 ppm lead, and screen prints and other surface coatings 90 ppm. The importer issues a Children's Product Certificate citing each rule, the lab and test date.
Lead times and delivery
Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote. They depend on the fit rounds needed to approve the neck opening on every size, on the fibre, since a GOTS organic order needs certified fabric with a transaction certificate for the lot, and on the snap and fabric tests, which should pass before bulk is packed. Multi-packs and gift sets add packing work. Ask whether a minimum counts per style, colour or size.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your store or shops in any city, packed singly, in multi-packs or in gift boxes, cartoned by size, with the packing list, fabric and snap test reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying bodysuits for export
Knitted bodysuits ship as babies' garments under HS 611120 in cotton or 611130 in synthetic fibres; your broker confirms the national line. Sizes above 86 cm body height move to other headings. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, and sea freight usually takes about three to five weeks to US and EU ports.
Questions buyers ask
What is a lap neck, and do we need one?
Overlapping shoulder panels that open wide as the bodysuit goes over the head. Babies' heads are large for their bodies, so it makes dressing easier. The alternatives are snaps at the neck, or a kimono wrap that avoids the head entirely.
How many snaps should a bodysuit crotch have?
The bodysuits described in several US customs rulings close with three snaps at the crotch, but no standard fixes the count. State the number, type, metal and spacing, ask for a reinforcing strip, and have bulk pieces tested for attachment.
Are snaps covered by the EU limits on clothing chemicals?
Not by REACH entry 72, which excludes non-textile fasteners. In the EU, metal snaps are tested instead for nickel release to EN 1811 and lead release into artificial saliva to EN 16711-3. Ask for both on the snap lot used.
Which fibre should we choose for a bodysuit?
Cotton jersey or interlock is the usual choice, sometimes with 3 to 5% elastane for stretch. Modal, lyocell and bamboo are alternatives, and modal is often blended with cotton. For a GOTS 'organic' label, at least 95% of the fibre must be certified organic.
How soon will I hear back about babywear and kidswear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
