Buying mango juice in Bangladesh
In the trade, mango juice covers three products. Juice is all fruit, pressed or reconstituted from concentrate with drinking water. Nectar adds water, usually with sugar, and holds at least 25 percent mango under Codex. Below that, it is usually sold as a mango drink. Shops, distributors, hotels and caterers in Bangladesh buy all three; importers buy them under their own labels.
Roptan works back from the name on your pack. We match you with a mango juice manufacturer in Bangladesh licensed for that product, check when the pulp was packed, test the first batch for Brix, acidity and microbiology, and check the label before cartons are printed.
How to brief a mango juice manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Name and mango share
- Juice, nectar or drink, and the mango juice or pulp percentage by volume. The name you may print follows from that figure.
- Brix and acidity methods
- Brix by refractometer and titratable acidity, each with a tolerance. Codex names ISO 2173 and ISO 750; ask the plant's lab to use them.
- Pulp source
- When the pulp or concentrate was packed and whether it was sulphited. Great Britain makes sulphites above 10 mg per litre a declared allergen.
- Heat process
- Hot fill for heat-tolerant bottles, or UHT, usually above 135 °C for one to two seconds, before aseptic filling into cartons, with records per batch.
- Dilution water
- Codex requires water used to reconstitute pulp or concentrate to meet at least the WHO drinking-water guidelines. Ask for the plant's latest water report.
- Pack and label
- Carton, PET, glass or can, volume and label language. A mango picture means printing the juice percentage in the US and Great Britain.
Standards and papers for mango juice
- BDS 513, BDS 527 and BDS 1581
- BSTI's mandatory standards for fruit juices, concentrated fruit juice and fruit drinks. The plant needs a CM licence for the one matching your product, plus BSTI's packaged-goods registration.
- Codex CXS 247-2005
- Sets the mango minimums, 13.5 °Brix for juice from concentrate and 25 percent fruit for nectar, and the label words 'from concentrate' and 'juice content'.
- US juice HACCP, 21 CFR Part 120
- Covers juice, purees and concentrates. The importer needs proof, such as the plant's HACCP plan and records, that its controls achieve a 5-log reduction.
Lead times and delivery
Because plants store aseptic pulp, a juice order usually does not wait for the mango season. As a general guide from the private-label drinks trade, not a Bangladesh figure, a new recipe under your label usually takes about two to three months, longer when cartons need new print, and minimums usually run from a few thousand to tens of thousands of packs per flavour and size. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers by the carton or truckload to distributors, shops, hotels and caterers, with batch codes, date marks, lab reports where ordered and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Aseptic cartons usually need no cold chain until opened; keep them dry and shaded.
Buying mango juice for export
Mango juice usually enters under HS 2009.89, juice of any other single fruit; your customs broker confirms the line for nectars and drinks. A 20-foot container takes about 21.6 tonnes of cargo, so juice fills it by weight first. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram or CFR, with the plant's HACCP records for US buyers.
Questions buyers ask
Can mango juice be supplied all year?
Usually, yes. Plants usually pulp mango in the season, which for the pulp varieties starts around early June, store the pulp aseptically and make juice and drinks from it through the year. Ask when your pulp was packed, and ask for the shelf life the plant will print, backed by a storage test.
What Brix should mango juice have?
Under Codex, mango juice or puree reconstituted from concentrate should read at least 13.5 °Brix. For nectars and drinks it follows your recipe. We do not quote limits from the BSTI standard, so we agree a Brix figure with the plant in writing and test each batch against it.
Do I need juice HACCP to sell mango juice in the US?
Yes. FDA's juice HACCP rule covers juice, purees and concentrates and requires a 5-log reduction of the pertinent microorganism. The importer must check the plant meets it, for example with its HACCP plan and records, kept in English. Juice without that assurance is refused entry.
Who issues the halal certificate?
In Bangladesh, BSTI runs a halal certification service and publishes a list of certified establishments, and other bodies also certify. Your importer should confirm which certifier your market accepts before production. We then check the certificate names the plant and product and is in date.
How soon will I hear back about juices and beverages?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
