Buying leno mesh bags in Bangladesh

A leno mesh bag is woven in leno weave, where two warp tapes twist around each weft tape. The fabric stays open, lets air and light through, and keeps its mesh with almost no slippage of the tapes. It carries produce, firewood and shellfish; one neighbouring-country standard sets 25 kg and 50 kg types woven as a tube from PP or HDPE tape.

For export orders, a leno mesh bag manufacturer in Bangladesh should state the tape, fabric weight, mesh and UV treatment in the quote. Roptan sources from verified mills, writes those into the order, checks sacks and bales from your lot, and ships or delivers. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of leno mesh bag

Woven leno tube sacks

Tape woven as a tube on a circular loom and sewn at the bottom or side with two rows of lock or chain stitch. Choose it for fruit, vegetables and firewood, in 25 or 50 kg.

Food-grade produce sacks

Tape from virgin food-grade PP or HDPE, with the raw material tested for overall migration and any colourant for toxic elements. Choose it for produce whose importer asks for food-contact papers.

UV-stabilised sacks

Tape with UV-absorbing additives, since polypropylene can crack and craze in outdoor use. Choose it for firewood or produce stacked in the open, and ask for the UV test result.

How to brief a leno mesh bag manufacturer in Bangladesh

Capacity and size
Nominal capacity, such as 25 or 50 kg, and inside length and width in centimetres, set by your produce and how full the packing house fills it.
Tape and fabric
Tape width, fabric mass in g/m², and ends and picks per decimetre, which set the mesh opening. One neighbouring-country standard uses tape 2.0 to 2.5 mm wide.
Strength and seams
Fabric breaking strength lengthwise and widthwise by a named method, seam strength, and two rows of lock or chain stitch in thread heavier than the tape.
Resin and colour
Virgin food-grade PP or HDPE tape for produce, a colourant free of toxic elements, and the colour you need.
UV, label and bale
UV stabiliser and its test, any label or print on the sack, and sacks per bale with the bale mass.

Standards and tests for mesh sacks

IS 16187:2014 (India)
A neighbouring-country standard for PP or HDPE leno sacks for fruit and vegetables, not a Bangladesh rule. Its clauses make a checklist: capacity, size, fabric mass, mesh, strength, seams, UV and bale mass.
ISO 13934-1:2013
The strip-method tensile test for textile fabrics. On open mesh, agree how the strip is cut and the gauge length, and check which the report used.
ISO 4892-2 and ISO 4892-3
Laboratory light exposure for plastics, by xenon-arc or fluorescent UV lamps. A UV report should give the method, the hours and the retained strength.
EU 10/2011 and 21 CFR 177.1520
Food-contact rules for plastics in the EU and the US. An importer may ask for a declaration of compliance and a migration report on the tape.

What moves the price of a leno mesh bag

  • PP or HDPE resin, largely imported at world prices, so its rises lift the maker's cost.
  • Tape width and denier, fabric g/m² and mesh count, which set the resin per sack.
  • Size and capacity: a 50 kg sack takes more fabric than a 25 kg one.
  • UV stabiliser, colour, drawstring, label strip or print.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on what is new. A running tape and colour move faster than a new colour, a UV stabiliser, food-contact or UV test reports, or a printed label. Sample approval and quantity count too. Roptan confirms the sample and dispatch dates and the minimum in the quote.

Sacks are counted into bales and each bale is weighed against the order. Roptan delivers to your packing house or warehouse anywhere in Bangladesh with the packing list, test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3), or sends the bales to the port for your shipment.

Buying leno mesh bags for export

Woven mesh sacks of PP strip usually enter under HS 6305.33; tariffs such as the UK's split that line into knitted and other, so a knitted (raschel) mesh bag may sit on a different line. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with the reports ordered and, where asked, a food-contact declaration for the tape. EU importers may ask for recyclability information under Regulation (EU) 2025/40, applying from 12 August 2026.

What we check for this order

  • Weave and meshLeno weave, tape width, fabric mass and ends and picks per decimetre on sacks from your lot, against the approved sample.
  • Seams and strengthTwo rows of stitching, thread heavier than the tape, and a strength report naming the method and gauge length.
  • Tape and food-contact papersVirgin food-grade tape for produce sacks, a food-contact declaration where the importer asks, and the colourant test.
  • Bale count and massBales weighed and sacks counted, with size, capacity and labelling checked on sacks sampled to ISO 2859-1.

Questions buyers ask

Can leno mesh bags be used for onions or potatoes sold in Bangladesh?

The Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010 and its rules require jute packaging for listed goods sold in Bangladesh, among them onion, potato, ginger and garlic; no fruit is listed. The Rules also say exported goods may be packed as the importing country requires. Confirm the rule for your goods with Roptan before ordering. BSTI has a double-warp jute bag standard for onion, ginger and garlic.

Why is produce packed in leno bags?

The open weave lets air and light through; airflow is the reason to choose leno over a closed woven sack. Onions, for example, are kept in large mesh bags in a dry, cool, dark, well-ventilated place. Ask your packing house how full it fills each bag before fixing the size.

Do mesh bags for export need food-contact papers?

Ask your importer which rule applies. In the EU the plastics rule is Regulation 10/2011, with a declaration of compliance; in the US, 21 CFR 177.1520 covers olefin polymers. Roptan asks for virgin food-grade tape, the declaration where needed and a migration report on the tape, and avoids recycled tape for produce sacks.

How strong should a leno sack be?

Strong enough for your fill and handling, stated as fabric breaking strength lengthwise and widthwise and seam strength, by a named method. On open mesh, the way the strip is cut and the gauge length change the result, so compare reports only when the method matches.

How soon will I hear back about FIBC jumbo bags and woven sacks?
