Buying leather belts in Bangladesh

A leather belt is a strap with a buckle, a keeper loop that holds the free end and often a metal or leather tip. Brands and importers abroad order belts for dress and casual wear; buyers in Bangladesh order them for uniforms and shop stock. Leather suits the job because it bends and tightens daily without damage.

A leather belt manufacturer in Bangladesh may cut straps from local or imported leather, so Roptan asks for the tannery and its papers before quoting. We then fix the width, thickness and size rule with a verified maker, approve a sample and measure the bulk.

Kinds of leather belt

Formal dress belts

Usually 28 to 32 mm wide, with bevelled edges, fine stitching, a tapered tip and a polished buckle. Choose them for suits, office wear and smart uniforms.

Casual and jeans belts

Usually 35 to 42 mm wide and typically one piece of leather with a textured look, an antiqued buckle and heavier stitching. Choose them for denim and workwear.

Vegetable-tanned belts

Firm leather that holds its shape, takes tooling or stamping and darkens to a patina with use. Choose them for a natural look on a single-piece strap.

Corrected grain belts

The surface is buffed to remove marks, then finished and often embossed to look uniform. Choose them when every belt in a large order must match, for example for uniforms.

How to brief a leather belt manufacturer in Bangladesh

Width and buckle
State the strap width in mm and match the buckle to it exactly, for a clean and secure fit.
Strap thickness and build
One piece or laminated, with the finished thickness in mm and a tolerance, measured to ISO 2589. Straps usually finish at about 3 to 4 mm.
Size rule
Belt size is a convention, not a fixed measurement. State how it is measured, such as centre hole to buckle end, plus hole count, spacing, size range and quantity per size.
Buckle, keeper and tip
Name the buckle metal, plating and finish, plus keeper and end tip. Solid brass or stainless steel resists rust; for plated buckles, set salt spray hours.
Edges and stitching
Raw cut edges fray and wear sooner. Ask for burnished or painted edges, and approve stitch length and thread on the sample.
Grade on the label
The US FTC leather guides cover belts sold alone. 'Genuine leather' names no grade, so state full grain, corrected grain or split.

Tests for leather belts

Chromium VI, EN ISO 17075
For the EU, leather touching skin must hold chromium VI below 3 mg/kg. Ask for a test on each leather and colour in the strap.
Azo dyes, ISO 17234-1:2024
The EU azo restriction lists wallets and handbags as examples, not belts, but the list is open: ask your buyer whether belts need the test.
Colour fastness, ISO 11640 and ISO 11641:2025
Rubbing shows whether dye marks light trousers; perspiration covers the inner face against the body. Pass values come from your specification.
Strap strength, EN ISO 3376 and ISO 11644
Tensile strength and finish adhesion of the strap leather. We know of no standard pull test at the buckle fold or holes, so agree one with the maker.

What moves the price of a leather belt

  • The strap leather's grade, tannage and finish, since leather is bought by area.
  • Yield: a long strap must run clear of scars and holes, so a no-marks rule usually takes more hide per belt.
  • Strap build: thickness, lamination, stitching and burnished or painted edges each add material or steps.
  • Buckle: its metal, plating and finish, and any salt spray hours you set.
  • Sizes and colours: set-up costs spread over fewer belts, and a custom leather colour needs its own dyeing batch.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on the strap, the buckle and the colour. A leather colour the tannery holds and a stock buckle move faster; a custom colour waits for a dyeing batch, a new buckle needs its own sample, and tests must pass before bulk. Fewer sizes and colours lower the minimum. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Roptan delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, to uniform stores, offices or shops, with belts sorted and labelled by size and colour. Cartons are packed dry against damp. Each delivery carries the packing list, the inspection report, any test reports ordered and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying leather belts for export

Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), or air freight from Dhaka for samples. Customs class belts as leather clothing accessories, not with bags, so confirm the line with your broker.

What we check for this order

  • Width, thickness and sizeOn drawn belts we measure width, thickness and size by your rule, and fit straps to buckles.

  • Final inspectionRandom sampling to ISO 2859-1 at your AQL, for edges, stitching, hole position, grain marks and colour.

Questions buyers ask

How should belt sizes be stated?

As a rule you write down, since belt size is a convention, not a fixed measurement. One maker measures from the middle hole to the buckle end, and belt size differs from trouser waist size. State the measuring points, hole count, size range and quantity per size, then approve a sized sample.

Which customs heading covers leather belts?

Heading 4203, leather articles of apparel and clothing accessories: the tariff's chapter note places belts there with braces and bandoliers, under 4203 30, not with bags and wallets in heading 4202. Your customs broker confirms the full code for the destination before documents are made.

Does the buckle need a nickel release test?

Ask for one where the buckle touches skin. The EU limits nickel released from items in direct and prolonged skin contact, with EN 1811:2023 as the reference method; whether a buckle counts depends on its design and how it is worn. For a plated buckle, the report should name the plating.

Where is the strap leather tanned?

Ask for the tannery by name. Tanneries moved from Hazaribagh to the Savar estate, where recent reports question the central effluent plant and the tanneries' LWG status, and some makers use imported leather. Roptan asks for the tannery and its papers before quoting, and does not promise LWG-certified leather.

How soon will I hear back about leather goods?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
