Buying jute and cotton bags in Bangladesh

In the trade, a jute and cotton bag is one of three builds: a bag of juco, cloth blended from jute and cotton yarns; a jute bag with cotton handles; or a jute bag with a cotton lining. Juco is a trade name, not a standard, and more cotton usually gives a softer, more even yarn.

Because one word covers three products, the order must say which build, what ratio and how it is checked. As your jute and cotton bag supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan sources from verified makers, writes build and ratio into the order, has fibre content tested by a lab that names its method, and checks the bulk.

Kinds of jute and cotton bag

Juco bags

Cloth woven from jute and cotton in a ratio no standard fixes; Bangladeshi studies used blends with 20 to 60 percent jute. Choose it for a hand usually softer than hessian, and state the ratio, which figure is jute, and that it is by weight.

Jute bags with cotton handles

A jute body with cotton webbing or cotton rope handles, which is how stock jute totes are usually made. Choose it when you want the look of jute and cotton only where the hand holds the bag.

Cotton-lined jute bags

A jute outer with a cotton lining sewn inside. Choose it when the inside of the bag should feel finished, and expect the lining to add cost and weight.

What to tell a jute and cotton bag supplier in Bangladesh

Build
Which of the three builds you mean, in words, with a photo or a sample, since sellers use the same name for different bags.
Blend ratio
The jute and cotton shares, which figure is jute, and the basis, by weight. Without that, a ratio such as 60:40 can be read both ways.
Cloth weight
g/m² on the finished cloth. A research juco from the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) was 235 g/m² at 40 percent jute; we found no published range for commercial juco.
Finish
Grey, bleached or dyed. In a Bangladeshi study, grey jute and cotton cloth wetted poorly and dyed badly untreated, so it was scoured and bleached first.
Yarn
Blended yarn, or jute and cotton yarns kept apart. In a 2024 study, yarn became less even and lost strength as the jute share rose.

Definitions, tests and rules for juco bags

Two Bangladesh definitions
The Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010 defines jute packaging as at least 75 percent jute. The Jute Act 2017 defines diversified jute goods as goods in which jute makes up at least fifty parts.
Bangladesh test methods
We found no Bangladesh standard for juco bags. BDS 954:2016 measures fabric weight and BDS 1091:2017 seam strength; ISO 13934-1 covers fabric strength.
REACH Annex XVII, entry 43
Azo dyes releasing listed amines above 30 mg/kg are banned in EU textile articles in long skin contact. Dyed cotton and jute both count: ask for a report per colour.
Directive (EU) 2024/825
From 27 September 2026 the EU bars generic claims such as "eco-friendly" without recognised proof. A claim naming the fibres and their shares is a specific one.

What moves the price of a jute and cotton bag

  • Cotton share: jute is usually cheaper than cotton, so more cotton usually raises the price.
  • Blend method: blended yarn, or jute and cotton yarns in separate directions.
  • Finish: scouring, bleaching and dyeing are steps that grey cloth does not need.
  • Lining, handles and any lamination; one listing even laminates a juco school bag.
  • Print colours and area, each colour on its own screen, and quantity per design.

Lead times and delivery

A juco bag from cloth the maker already weaves usually ships sooner than a new ratio, a dyed shade or a lined build. A new blend means weaving and sampling cloth first, dyed cloth needs pretreatment and a lab dip, and fibre content and azo tests add days. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per design in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver the bags flat in cartons, counted against the packing list, with the fibre content report, any other tests ordered and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Keep the report with the lot: the shares on any label or claim should match it.

Buying jute and cotton bags for export

Handled juco bags usually enter under HS heading 4202; sacks fall in 6305, jute (6305.10) apart from cotton (6305.20). The tariff reads a two-fibre fabric as its predominant fibre by weight, so 40:60 and 60:40 cloth can differ; your broker confirms the bag code. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram and confirms duty and origin papers per shipment.

What we check for this order

  • Fibre content by labWe have the jute and cotton shares tested by a lab that names its method, against the ratio in the order.
  • Cloth weightWe weigh the finished cloth against the order and the approved sample.
  • Shade and rubbingWe compare shade with the approved sample and have dyed or printed cloth tested to ISO 105-X12.
  • Azo report per colourFor dyed cloth bound for the EU, we ask for an azo test per colour before shipment.

Questions buyers ask

What does juco mean?

A trade name, not a standard. In Bangladeshi research it means cloth blended from jute and cotton, but sellers also use it for jute bags with cotton parts, cotton canvas bags with a jute label, and bags with a polyester inside. Get the build and fibre content in writing.

Does juco print more sharply than jute?

We found no test of print detail on juco bag cloth. A 2024 study found jute and cotton yarn more even as the cotton share rose, which may help, but judge sharpness on a strike-off on your actual cloth, not on a promise.

Which blend ratio should we order?

There is no standard ratio. Research blends run from 20 to 60 percent jute, and more cotton usually costs more. Choose by feel, cost and the claim you want to make, then state the shares, which figure is jute, and that they are by weight.

Can we call a juco bag eco-friendly?

Not as a generic claim in the EU from 27 September 2026. Name the fibres and their shares instead, such as 60 percent jute and 40 percent cotton by weight. Jute is a plant fibre, but lamination, plastic-based ink or a polyester lining changes what you can claim.

How soon will I hear back about jute bags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
