Buying hair toppers and extensions in Bangladesh
Extensions add length or volume to natural hair and are clipped, taped, bonded, ringed or sewn in. A topper is a partial hairpiece that covers thinning at the crown or parting. Both come in human or synthetic hair. One Bangladesh export-zone maker has described its range as wigs, hair pieces, braids and human hair extensions, sold to the United States, the EU, South Africa and Japan.
Hair collected in Bangladesh is mostly non-Remy, so smooth Remy lots usually come from imported raw hair or proven sorting. A hair topper and extension manufacturer in Bangladesh should show that proof on the strand. Roptan sources from verified makers, approves a washed sample and checks length, weight and attachments on the bulk.
How to specify toppers and extensions
- Attachment
- Clip, tape, bonded tip, ring or sewn weft, and for toppers the base size and how it fixes: clips, adhesive or an elastic band.
- Hair and cuticle
- Human or synthetic. For human hair, Remy with cuticles aligned or non-Remy, and any treatment history; approve a washed sample, since stripped hair can be coated to feel smooth.
- Length and weight
- Length in inches, measured straight, and weight in grams per pack or set. Bangladesh ponytails were reported in 2019 at 6 to 26 inches.
- Heat for synthetic fibre
- Most synthetic hair should not meet curling or flat irons; heat-resistant fibres exist. State whether the fibre is heat-friendly and to what temperature.
- Adhesives and warnings
- For tape and bonded pieces, name the adhesive and print the usage warnings: tight braids can cause traction alopecia, and a patch test is often advised.
Chemical limits that apply to toppers and extensions
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 43
- Bars azo dyes releasing listed amines above 30 mg/kg in textile articles in prolonged skin contact, naming hairpieces. It reaches dyed synthetic fibre, wefts and topper bases; ask for a report on those.
- REACH entries 63 and 23
- Hair accessories are named: lead must stay under 0.05 per cent by weight in any part, and cadmium under 0.01 per cent in metal parts, such as the clips on a clip-in.
- REACH entry 27 and EN 1811:2023
- Nickel release is capped at 0.5 microgram per square centimetre per week for articles in prolonged skin contact. Whether a clip counts is a judgement, so EU buyers often test it to EN 1811.
Lead times and delivery
Stock lengths and colours on clip-in or weft sets are usually quicker. Toppers made to the wearer, colour matches to your swatch, imported Remy raw hair and printed retail packs each add time, as does a second sample if the first fails the wash. Roptan confirms the sample and bulk dates, and the minimum per style, in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to salons, beauty shops and distributors, each set bagged and labelled with length, weight and colour, counted against the packing list, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Tape and bonded sets travel with the adhesive's details for the salon.
Buying hair toppers and extensions for export
Extensions and toppers are light, so they often ship by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka; large synthetic lots can go FOB Chattogram. A finished article of human hair usually sits under heading 6704, but a weft or clip-in is your broker's call. On EPB figures for FY2025-26, the United States took about 75 per cent of Bangladesh's exports across the nine wig, hair, comb and clip lines combined.
Questions buyers ask
Which extension method should a retailer stock?
Clip-ins, usually. The wearer fits and removes them at home, with none of the glue or braid tension that has been linked to dermatitis and traction alopecia. Tape-in, bonded and sewn extensions are fitted by a salon and usually stay in for weeks, so they suit salon suppliers better.
Can toppers be made to a client's measurements?
Yes. Toppers are often custom made. Send the base size and shape, the hair, length, density and colour, and how the topper should fix. We approve a sample on those figures before bulk.
Is glue safe for bonded extensions?
Glue has fallen out of favour since reports of headaches, bald patches and dermatitis, and wefts should not be bonded to the scalp. If you sell bonded pieces, name the adhesive, print usage warnings and advise a patch test.
Can you supply Remy extensions from Bangladesh?
Yes, with proof. Local ponytail hair is mostly non-Remy, so Remy lots usually rest on imported raw hair or careful sorting. We check cuticle direction on the bundle and wash the sample; without that proof the lot is sold as non-Remy.
How soon will I hear back about wigs and hair products?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
