Buying combs and hair clips in Bangladesh

Hair clips hold hair in place: claw, snap, alligator and barrette styles in plastic, acetate or metal. Combs detangle and style, with wide or fine teeth. Accessory brands and retailers buy both. The EPB lines for combs and hair-slides earned about 11.8 million US dollars in plastics (HS 961511) and about 12.7 million in other materials (HS 961519) in FY2025-26.

New shapes need moulds, and metal parts face chemical limits in the EU and US, so a comb and hair clip manufacturer in Bangladesh should quote tooling openly and show test results. Roptan sources from verified makers, approves a first sample and checks springs, edges and metal results on the bulk.

Kinds of comb and hair clip

Claw clips

A clamp with a spring hinge, also sold as a hair claw or hair clamp. State the spring strength and jaw size on the order.

Snap clips

A bendy clip that flexes from concave to convex and locks in place. State the size and whether it is metal or plastic.

Alligator clips

Double-prong clips, sold fully lined, partly lined or unlined. State the lining material and colour.

Barrettes or hair slides

A clasp of metal or plastic, sometimes with decorative fabric, in French, auto-clasp, ponytail and bow styles. Larger ones, about 3 to 4 inches (8 to 10 cm), hold long or thick hair.

Wide-tooth and fine-tooth combs

Wide-tooth combs, usually 3 mm or more between teeth, for wet, curly or tangled hair; fine-tooth combs, usually 1 mm or less, for straight or fine hair.

Specialist combs

Pin-tail combs for braiding and updos, barber combs with wide and fine teeth on two sides, pick, rake and pocket combs, and lice combs, usually metal.

How to specify combs and hair clips

Material
Plastic grade, acetate, metal with its plating, or wood. Plastic combs build static; boxwood is described as not doing so.
Size
Length and width in millimetres. Width, not only length, sets how much hair a clip holds.
Teeth and edges
Tooth spacing in millimetres, rounded tips, and for plastic combs teeth moulded in one piece without a seam.
Spring and hinge
For claw and snap clips, the spring strength and how many open and close cycles it should survive.
Mould
A new shape needs an injection mould: expect a tooling charge and a first-shot sample before bulk. Steel moulds cost more but last longer.
Finish and decoration
Plating, paint, stones or fabric bows, approved on a sample, since decoration changes both cost and children's safety checks.

Chemical and safety limits for combs and clips

REACH Annex XVII, entries 63 and 23
Hair accessories are named: lead must stay under 0.05 per cent by weight in any part, and cadmium under 0.01 per cent in metal parts, for goods sold in the EU.
REACH entry 27 with EN 1811:2023
Nickel release is capped at 0.5 microgram per square centimetre per week for prolonged skin contact. Buyers often test metal clips to EN 1811, after EN 12472 wear simulation on plated parts.
US lead limit for children's products
Clips designed mainly for children usually count as children's products in the US, where 15 U.S.C. 1278a sets 100 parts per million total lead in any part.
16 CFR 1501 small parts
Articles for children under 3 must not fit entirely inside the US small-parts test cylinder, so a bow or stone that comes off a toddler's clip is the risk to check.

What moves the price of combs and hair clips

  • Material: plastic grade, acetate or plated metal each price differently.
  • Tooling: a new shape needs a mould, and steel moulds cost more to make but suit long runs.
  • Spring and hinge quality on claw and snap clips.
  • Decoration: stones or fabric bows add parts and handwork.
  • Plating, size and weight, and the retail packaging.

Lead times and delivery

Stock designs usually ship sooner than new shapes. A new shape needs a mould made and a first-shot sample approved before bulk, and plating, decoration and printed packs add steps. Roptan confirms the sample and bulk dates, and the minimum, which the mould often sets, in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to retailers, salons and accessory sellers, packed by style and colour in cartons and counted against the packing list, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Test reports for metal parts travel with the order where your market needs them.

Buying combs and hair clips for export

Combs and clips are small and light, and ship FOB Chattogram or by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. On EPB figures for FY2025-26, the United States took about 75 per cent of Bangladesh's exports across the nine wig, hair, comb and clip lines combined; the data do not show clips on their own.

What we check for this order

  • Metal resultsNickel, lead and cadmium results on metal parts, with plated parts tested after wear simulation.
  • Children's stylesDecorations pulled to see that they stay on, and small-parts checks on anything sold for children under 3.
  • Teeth and edgesRounded teeth and smooth edges on sampled combs and clips, so nothing scratches the scalp.
  • Spring cyclesSnap and claw clips opened and closed repeatedly to check that the spring and hinge hold.

Questions buyers ask

Do metal hair clips need a nickel test?

For the EU, buyers often ask for one. REACH caps nickel release for articles in prolonged skin contact, and whether a clip counts is a judgement, so testing to EN 1811:2023 is the careful course. The lead and cadmium limits name hair accessories directly.

Can you make a clip in our own shape?

Yes, through a maker with injection moulding. A new shape needs its own mould, which is a cost of its own and usually sets the minimum order. You approve the first-shot sample before bulk starts.

Which comb suits curly hair?

A wide-tooth comb, usually with 3 mm or more between teeth, for curly, wet or tangled hair. Fine-tooth combs, usually 1 mm or less, suit straight or fine hair, and a barber comb carries both on its two sides.

Are clips for toddlers treated differently?

In the US, yes. Articles for children under 3 must not fit entirely inside the small-parts test cylinder, and children's products face a 100 ppm total lead limit. Keep decorations firmly fixed and ask for test reports before shipping.

How soon will I hear back about wigs and hair products?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
