Buying EVA slides in Bangladesh
A slide is an open-toed slip-on held by a strap across the vamp. Unlike a flip-flop, nothing passes between the toes. EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam is light, easy to form and cheaper than natural rubber, which is why it is common for slides. Importers abroad and hotels and other buyers at home order them.
Roptan finds the EVA slide manufacturer in Bangladesh whose process suits your style and puts quotes on the same hardness, weight per pair and packing. We approve a pre-production pair with you, arrange shrinkage and chemical tests and measure bulk pairs before packing.
How to specify an EVA slide
- Process
- Injection or compression moulding: it decides mould cost, how closely sizes hold and the surface detail.
- Hardness
- An agreed hardness in Asker C or Shore C to ASTM D2240, with a tolerance and a test spot. ISO 868 covers only Shore A and D, so it is not the method for foam.
- Density and weight per pair
- Standard EVA foam is about 0.15 g/cm³; ISO 845 measures apparent density. State weight per pair in a named size with a tolerance.
- Foam grade
- The vinyl acetate content, usually 1 to 40 percent by weight, sets many foam properties. Ask the seller to name it for repeat orders.
- Heat shrinkage
- Name the method, temperature, time and your maximum percentage. SATRA TM-70 runs 70 °C for 40 minutes, the PFI method 70 °C for one hour.
- Cartons for a humid climate
- Bangladesh has a hot, humid monsoon from June to September. Ask for dry cartons and no anti-mould sachets: dimethyl fumarate is banned in EU articles.
Chemical limits and tests for EVA slides
- REACH Annex XVII entry 51
- Limits DEHP, DBP, BBP and DIBP to 0.1 percent of the plasticised material, which includes polymer foams and rubber, so EVA foam is in scope. Slides worn on bare skin get no open-air exemption.
- REACH Annex XVII entries 50 and 72
- Entry 50 limits each listed PAH to 1 mg/kg per rubber or plastic part touching the skin. Entry 72 covers consumer footwear, with 75 mg/kg for formaldehyde.
- ISO 16181-1 and ISO 16181-2 (2021)
- Footwear phthalate tests by solvent extraction or pyrolysis. The report should name the method and cover foam and strap separately.
- ISO 20871:2018 and ISO 17707:2005
- Outsole abrasion for any material, and outsole flex resistance. Neither sets a pass mark for slides, so state yours in the order.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on moulds and tests. A style on moulds the maker already holds moves faster than one that needs new tooling for each size. Shrinkage and chemical tests on bulk colours, and any re-run after a failed result, add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per style and colour in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to your store, shop or hotel, pairs packed by size and colour in dry, labelled cartons, with the packing list, test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Damp cartons can grow mould in the monsoon, so we check stock that has waited before it moves.
Buying EVA slides for export
A moulded slide has no plugged thong, so it usually falls under the 'other' lines of HS heading 6402, which mix every rubber and plastic style. EU countries take most of Bangladesh's exports in that heading's largest line, so REACH sets the test plan. We quote FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), with the certificate of origin, a REX statement for EU GSP and lab reports.
Questions buyers ask
Injection or compression moulded EVA: which should I choose?
Injection suits one-piece slides: no foam is wasted, but sizes vary more as parts grow and cool. Compression usually holds tolerance better, takes finer detail and needs cheaper moulds, but wastes foam cut from sheet. Ask which process the quote uses.
What hardness should an EVA slide be?
No footwear standard sets slide hardness, so you choose it. State an agreed hardness in Asker C or Shore C to ASTM D2240, with a tolerance and a test spot, then approve it on a pre-production pair and wear-test that pair before bulk.
Do EVA slides need phthalate testing if there is no PVC?
For the EU, yes. REACH entry 51 counts polymer foams and rubber as plasticised material, so an all-EVA slide is in scope. Test the foam and the strap in each colour by ISO 16181-1 or ISO 16181-2.
Will EVA slides shrink?
EVA foam can shrink with heat, which is why shrinkage is tested in an oven at a stated temperature and time. There is no single industry pass mark, so name the method and your maximum percentage in the order.
How soon will I hear back about rubber and plastic footwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
