Buying colour matching cabinets in Bangladesh
A colour matching cabinet, or light booth, is a closed viewing box with a neutral grey interior and several switchable standard lights. Two samples that match under one light can part under another, and the cabinet shows it first. Its buyers are the labs of garment units and of dyeing, printing and finishing units, 342 of them in USDA's April 2026 count from BTMA data.
Cabinets go wrong quietly: a lamp ages, a counterfeit tube goes in, or the store light differs from the buyer's. A colour matching cabinet supplier in Bangladesh should guard against all three. Roptan sources from verified sellers, checks each source against your buyers' manuals, confirms genuine lamps and local service, and delivers. You deal with Roptan only.
How to brief a colour matching cabinet supplier in Bangladesh
- Each source by type and temperature
- Datasheets usually name lamps, not CIE numbers, so state type and colour temperature: the 4000 K narrow-band store fluorescent is CIE FL11, and cool white fluorescent is about 4230 K, FL2.
- LED or fluorescent
- Follow your buyer's store lighting. For LED, ask for a source built for booths: one maker warns that office LED retrofit tubes miss CIE illuminant tolerances.
- Lamp hours
- An hour meter on each source. One maker says fluorescent lamps that reach 2,000 hours within 12 months must be replaced; another counts each switch-on as roughly an hour.
- Viewing angle and surface
- Assessments are made at a set angle, so a 45 degree viewing table is sold as a booth accessory. AATCC sells a neutral grey card for mounting specimens.
- Supply
- Mains here is 50 Hz, and USDA reported frequent electricity shortages in April 2026. Ask whether the cabinet tolerates a low or interrupted supply.
Viewing standards for a textile colour cabinet
- ASTM D1729-22
- The current ASTM practice for judging colours and colour differences by eye under diffuse light; it recommends D65. ASTM shows the 2016 edition as historical.
- AATCC EP9-2025
- The textile procedure for judging colour difference against a standard by eye. Read it beside your buyer's own viewing specification.
- ISO/CIE 23603:2024
- Grades how well a lamp simulates daylight. It replaced ISO 23603:2005, now withdrawn. Ask the seller for the grade of the D65 source.
- ASTM D4086-18(2023)
- The practice for visual evaluation of metamerism, for buyers who want proof that a shade holds across sources.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on the model and its route. A cabinet a seller already holds in Dhaka moves faster than one imported to order. An LED store source matched to your buyer's lighting, an extra source, spare lamps of the exact type or a lamp certificate can add time. Roptan confirms the delivery date in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers the cabinet to your lab with its power cable, fixings, assembly diagram, instruction book and switch panel guide, and the seller sets it up. A one-year parts warranty is usual; ask whether it covers lamp ageing, since one maker's does not. You receive the warranty card, any lamp certificate and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Is an LED cabinet as good as a fluorescent one?
It can be, if its sources are made for colour viewing. One maker warns that ordinary LED retrofit tubes are not made to a tight tolerance to CIE illuminants. Choose the type your buyer's retail lighting specification names, and get each LED source's colour temperature in writing.
How often should cabinet lamps be changed?
Go by the hours on each meter. One maker says fluorescent lamps that reach 2,000 hours within 12 months must be replaced; another counts every switch-on as roughly an hour, so avoid short on and off cycles. Clean the grey interior, and have it repainted when it is dirty.
The datasheet says the cabinet meets ISO 3664. Is that enough?
No. ISO 3664 is a graphic technology and photography standard, and its 2025 edition says it does not apply outside those fields; the 2009 edition is withdrawn. For textiles, ask for ASTM D1729-22 and AATCC EP9 conditions, the ISO/CIE 23603:2024 grade of the daylight source, and your buyer's viewing specification.
Who should judge shades in the cabinet?
People with tested colour vision. The ASTM practice assumes observers with at least normal colour vision, preferably rated with a 100 hue test; one booth maker reports hereditary colour deficiency in some 8 percent of men and 0.4 percent of women. A 100 hue test kit is sold in Dhaka.
How soon will I hear back about textile testing and colour lab?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
