Buying mixed colour flakes in Bangladesh

Mixed colour PET flake is washed bottle flake that is not held to a single colour. It is still one plastic, PET, and still has rules: European recyclers grade mixes into separate classes, and some materials are barred from every bale. It usually goes to buyers who colour their product anyway. A mixed colour PET flake supplier in Bangladesh should tell you which class each lot belongs to.

Roptan sources it for you. Feedstock in Bangladesh was reported in 2024 as inconsistent in quality, which makes a mixed lot vary more than a sorted one. We write the class and limits into the order, compare quotes on that basis, have each lot tested and deliver.

Kinds of mixed colour PET flake

Mixed colours grade

The bale grade of Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE): more than 80% transparent colours mixed together, with up to 5% opaque colours. Choose it for coloured products that tolerate a few opaque pieces.

Translucent mix

A flake class on PRE's template, beside translucent blue and green: transparent colours together. Choose it when the product must stay see-through but its colour is open.

Dark mix

A separate class on the same template, for darker flake. Choose it for products that end up dark, and say whether dark pieces are allowed into any other lot you buy.

Opaque mix

The class for non-transparent coloured flake. Choose it only when your product hides colour completely, and ask for the opaque share to be stated.

How to brief a mixed colour PET flake supplier in Bangladesh

Mix class
Name the class: mixed colours, translucent mix, dark mix or opaque mix. One word, mixed, covers all four in trade talk.
Allowed colours and opaque limit
List the colours you accept, the maximum opaque share and whether dark colours are excluded. Sellers' colour limits differ widely.
Barred materials
PRE bars minerals, rubber, wood, sacks, glass, silicone, textiles, food contamination, hazardous and medical waste, PET-G, C-PET and PS from bottle bales. Put the same list in your order.
Intrinsic viscosity
A minimum in dl/g by a named method such as ASTM D4603-26. Mixed lots can show scattered IV, so test each lot rather than one sample.
PVC and contaminants
Limits in ppm for PVC, polyolefins, metal and paper. Hydrogen chloride from PVC harms the melt in any colour.
Moisture
Usually up to 1% at dispatch, by weight loss at 105 °C, with the deduction for water above it.

Tests and papers for mixed colour PET flake

ASTM D4603-26
The current edition for the inherent viscosity of PET dissolved at 0.50%, by glass capillary viscometer. The 2018 edition is historical.
EN 15348:2024
Main characteristics and test methods for PET recyclates. It replaced the 2014 edition, withdrawn on 2 May 2024.
ISO 12418-2, Annex A
Counts PVC, polyolefins, metal and paper in flake; Annex D of DIN EN 15348 is the other route on PRE's template.
DoE Environmental Clearance Certificate
Washing plants need it under ECR 2023. We ask for the certificate itself, current and in the seller's name.

What moves the price of mixed colour PET flake

  • Colour: mixed flake is less versatile than clear, which can be dyed any colour, so it usually sits below clear.
  • Mix class: a translucent mix with no opaques usually takes more sorting than a mixed colours grade that allows some.
  • Contaminant limits: PVC and barred materials have to be removed whatever the colour, and tighter limits cost more.
  • Moisture and weight terms: the moisture test and deduction decide what you pay per dry tonne.

Lead times and delivery

Mixed lots can usually be built from a wider range of bottle input than a single colour, but a tight class or a low PVC limit narrows that. The lab report on the lot sample adds time before loading; damp weather slows drying; export loads wait on container bookings at Chattogram. Roptan confirms dates, lot sizes and any minimum in the quote.

Mixed flake usually ships in big bags of about 800 to 1,100 kg, or one tonne, labelled by lot. We deliver anywhere in Bangladesh with the packing list, the lot test report, the slip from a BSTI-verified weighbridge and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying mixed colour flakes for export

Mixed colour is not mixed plastic. Under the Basel Convention's plastic waste amendments, in force since 1 January 2021 and binding on Bangladesh, clean waste of one non-halogenated polymer such as PET for recycling falls under entry B3011; PET mixed with other plastics, or contaminated, falls under Y48 and needs prior informed consent. Barred materials can move a load to Y48, and the authorities in the exporting and importing countries make the final reading. We quote FOB Chattogram with the exporter's ERC.

What we check for this order

  • Class and colours on the lotThe colour make-up and opaque share measured on a lot sample against the class in your order.
  • Barred materialsWe have the sample checked for glass, rubber, PET-G, PS and other barred materials, since they also affect the Basel entry.
  • Lab reportIV, PVC and moisture tested at an independent lab on a sample drawn from your actual bags.
  • Plant papers and weightsA current DoE Environmental Clearance Certificate for the plant, and bag weights checked against the packing list.

Questions buyers ask

What does mixed colour mean on a PET flake offer?

It can mean four different classes: PRE's mixed colours grade with more than 80% transparent colours and up to 5% opaques, or a translucent, dark or opaque mix. Ask the seller which one, and put it in the order.

Does mixed colour flake need a PVC limit?

Yes. PVC sinks with PET in the wash and can give off hydrogen chloride in the melt, whatever colour the flake is. Set a limit in ppm and have it tested on each lot.

Can mixed colour flake be exported as B3011?

It can, if it is almost entirely PET, almost free of contamination and goes to environmentally sound recycling. Colour is not the test; other plastics and contamination are. The authorities in the exporting and importing countries make the final reading.

Does IV vary more in mixed lots?

It can. Mixed lots draw on a wider range of bottles, so the IV of one lot can differ from the next. State a minimum in dl/g with the test method and have each lot tested, not just a first sample.

How soon will I hear back about PET flakes?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
