Buying blue PET flakes in Bangladesh
Blue PET flake is washed bottle flake in which light blue PET is a planned share of the lot, from a clear and blue blend to a mostly blue grade. Recyclers usually sort bottles by polymer and by colour, and blue is one of the colour cuts seen beside clear and green. A blue PET flake supplier in Bangladesh should state that share as a number, since the colour your product can carry decides the grade.
Roptan sources it for you. Feedstock quality in Bangladesh was reported in 2024 as inconsistent, so the blue share can drift between deliveries unless the seller sorts to a stated limit. We write that limit into the order, compare quotes against it, have each lot measured and tested, and deliver.
How to brief a blue PET flake supplier in Bangladesh
- Light blue share
- A minimum or maximum light blue percentage by weight, measured on a lot sample. The word blue alone can mean a clear/blue blend or a mostly blue lot.
- Other colours
- A separate, tighter limit. One European clear-flake sheet allows light blue at 0.75% but every other colour at only 0.05%.
- Opaques
- State that opaque colours are excluded: PRE's Clear, Clear/Blue and Light blue grades all carry none.
- Intrinsic viscosity
- A minimum in dl/g with method and edition, such as ASTM D4603-26. Colour does not change the requirement, but lots from different bottle sources can differ.
- PVC and contaminants
- Limits in ppm for PVC, polyolefins, metal and paper. PVC can release hydrogen chloride in a PET melt whatever the flake colour.
- Moisture
- Usually 1% or less at dispatch, by weight loss at 105 °C, with the deduction for any water above it.
Tests and papers for blue PET flake
- ASTM D4603-26
- The glass capillary method for the inherent viscosity of PET dissolved at 0.50%. The 2018 edition is historical, so cite the 2026 edition.
- EN 15348:2024
- The European standard listing the main characteristics of PET recyclates and how to test them. It replaced the 2014 edition, withdrawn in May 2024.
- Contaminant count
- PVC, polyolefins, metal and paper by Annex A of ISO 12418-2:2012 or Annex D of DIN EN 15348, the two routes on PRE's flake template.
- DoE Environmental Clearance Certificate
- Washing plants need it under ECR 2023. We check that it is current and in the seller's own name.
Lead times and delivery
Blue lots depend on how many light blue bottles reach the seller, so a fixed-share blend can wait for sorted input. The colour measurement and lab report add time before loading, and monsoon damp slows drying. Export orders also wait on container space at Chattogram. Roptan confirms dates, lot sizes and any minimum in the quote.
Blue flake usually moves in big bags, shown on recyclers' sheets as about 800 to 1,100 kg or a tonne each, labelled by lot. We deliver to your plant anywhere in Bangladesh with the packing list, the colour measurement and lab report, a slip from a BSTI-verified weighbridge and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying blue PET flakes for export
Under the Basel Convention's plastic waste amendments, binding on Bangladesh and in force since 1 January 2021, clean PET of one polymer sent for recycling sits under entry B3011, while contaminated or mixed-plastic loads fall under Y48 and need prior informed consent. The authorities in the exporting and importing countries make the final reading. Textile millers called in December 2024 for a ban on exports of PET bottles and flexible packaging, so we check the current position, then quote FOB Chattogram with the exporter's ERC.
Questions buyers ask
Is blue PET flake the same as clear/blue?
Not always. Clear/blue is a blend with up to 20% light blue in PRE's grading, while the light blue grade holds more than that. Sellers use the word blue for both, so put the share you accept in the order and have it measured on each lot.
Can blue flake go into a clear product?
Only within a limit you set. Some clear-flake specifications already tolerate a little light blue; one European sheet allows 0.75% light blue but only 0.05% of other colours. If you blend blue into clear yourself, the ratio stays in your hands.
Why does the blue share change between deliveries?
Bottles in Bangladesh usually reach recyclers through scrap dealers and other informal collection, and a 2024 report described feedstock quality as inconsistent. Unless the seller sorts to a stated limit, each lot reflects what came in. A limit in the order and a measurement per lot keep it steady.
Do I need to dry blue flake before processing?
Yes. Dispatch moisture is usually up to 1%, but PET takes up water and breaks down in the melt by hydrolysis; one European patent describes drying flake to at most 50 ppm before processing.
How soon will I hear back about PET flakes?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
