Buying female mannequins in Bangladesh

A female mannequin is a full-body figure for showing women's clothes, usually a rigid shell in fibreglass or plastic. Buyers in Bangladesh include fashion retailers and boutiques, and garment factory showrooms, where figures typically present samples to visiting buyers. Importers abroad buy them too, on the customs line for tailors' dummies and lay figures.

A female figure can let a range down in small ways: a bust a size off, paint lifting at the shoulder. A female mannequin manufacturer in Bangladesh should be briefed in centimetres. Roptan writes your measurements and finish into the order, approves a sample with your garment on it and inspects the bulk.

Kinds of female mannequin

Realistic female mannequins

A sculpted face, make-up and a wig, usually in fibreglass, which can be sculpted to a brief and takes fine detail. Choose them for windows and brand stores.

Headless female mannequins

No head, hair or make-up, which is why they became common and usually cost less. Choose them when the garment is the display.

Abstract and egghead figures

A smooth head without features, sold by retailers as a group of its own. Choose them for a plain look across a large floor, where colour and cut should lead.

Plastic female mannequins

Built to take heavy store traffic and usually cheaper than fibreglass. Choose them for busy floors and frequent display changes.

How to brief a female mannequin manufacturer in Bangladesh

Measurements in centimetres
Height, bust, waist and hip in cm, measured to ISO 8559-1, not a size letter: size labels can differ widely between brands and countries.
Size range
If you sell plus sizes, order figures in them. Factories and buying houses are said to be moving to more diverse figures for sampling.
Head and face
Realistic, abstract or headless. For a realistic figure, send a make-up and skin-tone reference and approve both on the sample.
Material and weight
Fibreglass for detail and a painted finish, plastic for traffic. Ask for the weight per figure to compare sample and bulk.
Finish
Gloss or matt against an approved panel. A gloss reading to ISO 2813 is only a guide on a curved body.
Base and rod
Calf or foot rod and the base. For glass, ask for toughened glass and the seller's test report; order spare hands.

Tests and papers for female mannequins

ISO 8559-1 and ISO 8559-2
Part 1 defines how body measurements are taken, Part 2 the primary and secondary dimensions. Name them so your chart is read the same way at the maker.
ISO 2409 cross-cut test
A lattice is cut through the paint and the lifting rated. Its scope says it does not measure adhesion, so treat it as a finish check on a painted panel.
ISO 2859-1:2026
AQL sampling for lot-by-lot inspection; it replaced the 1999 edition in January 2026. Agree before bulk which cracks, chips and size faults count as major.
REACH declaration
For the EU: a Candidate List substance above 0.1 per cent of an article's mass must be declared down the chain. Ask the seller to declare resins and paints.

What moves the price of a female mannequin

  • Material: fibreglass usually costs more than plastic, and it takes finer detail.
  • Face work: a wig and make-up add cost; headless and abstract figures need neither.
  • A new sculpt: a figure made to your own measurements needs a new sculpt and moulds, so ask for the mould cost as its own line.
  • Size range: ask for a price per size, plus sizes included, since each size is a separate figure.

Lead times and delivery

Dates turn on the moulds, so Roptan gives no standard range here. Time is shortest when the seller already holds moulds in your size and pose and you accept a stock finish. A new sculpt, custom make-up or wigs and a matched brand colour make it longer; ask how long resin and paint cure before packing. Roptan confirms dates and the minimum in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver to stores, boutiques and factory showrooms, one figure per carton with arms, hands and base packed apart. Ask for a drop test on the packed figure, such as ISO 2248 or ISTA 1A, before bulk packing. Each delivery carries the packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying female mannequins for export

Female figures usually enter under HS heading 9618, tailors' dummies and other lay figures; your customs broker confirms the code. Bangladesh exported about 10.43 million US dollars on that heading in FY2025-26, mostly to the United States, Japan and France (EPB), though the line also covers animated displays. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram; the seller's REX statement supports EU GSP or UK DCTS claims.

What we check for this order

  • Figure measuredWe measure height, bust, waist and hip on the sample and on bulk figures against your chart and tolerances.
  • Your dress on the figureWe dress a bulk figure in your sample garment to see the arms come off cleanly and the fit hangs right.
  • Paint at the jointsWe check shoulder, wrist and waist joints for chips or lifting paint, comparing them with the approved panel.
  • Packed carton droppedWe have one packed carton drop-tested before bulk packing, so breakage shows at the seller, not in your store.

Questions buyers ask

Fibreglass or plastic for a women's wear store?

Fibreglass if figures stand in windows or carry a realistic face, since it takes fine detail and a painted finish; it costs more. Plastic if figures are moved and dressed often on a busy floor, as it is built for heavy traffic. On either, ask for a drop or tip test on the base.

What size should a female mannequin be?

The size of the clothes you sell, in centimetres. Labels differ between brands and countries, so one maker's size 10 figure may not fit your size 10 dress. Send height, bust, waist and hip, measured to ISO 8559-1, or a sample garment, and approve the sample with it on.

Can I order plus-size female mannequins?

Yes, if you give the measurements. A plus-size figure may need a new sculpt unless the seller already holds moulds in that size, so it can take longer and cost more than a stock figure. Order the sizes you actually sell.

Do headless mannequins cost less?

Usually, yes. A headless or faceless figure needs no hair or make-up, which is why such figures became more affordable and more common. They suit stores where the clothes, not the face, carry the display.

How soon will I hear back about mannequins and display?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
