Buying cotton yarn waste in Bangladesh

Cotton yarn waste is what spinning, winding and weaving leave behind: cone ends, broken yarn and thread, plus the softer lap, sliver and roving bits a mill does not feed back into its own line. Rotor spinning mills in Bangladesh turn cotton waste into coarse-count yarn, and the terry-towel trade has relied on yarn made from it.

Spinners, recycling mills and towel makers at home compete for the same waste, so a clear specification matters. Buying through Roptan replaces the search for a cotton yarn waste exporter in Bangladesh: we source from verified sellers, put hard or soft, count, colour and cleanliness in writing, check each lot and ship or deliver it.

Kinds of cotton yarn waste

Ring frame and winding waste

Hard waste: broken yarn and cone ends from ring spinning and winding. The fibres are twisted and packed into a closed structure, so the waste usually needs opening before reuse.

Weaving and preparation waste

Hard waste from weaving preparation and weaving in fabric mills: yarn ends and thread. It usually needs opening too, and usually falls under yarn waste, including thread waste, on the tariff.

Soft spinning waste

Lap bits, sliver bits, roving ends, pneumafil and lapping waste, the fibre still in an open structure. Mills can feed it straight back into an earlier stage, and a broker may declare it as other cotton waste.

Dyed yarn waste

Waste from dyed or coloured yarn rather than grey yarn. State the dye status and the colours you accept, and keep it apart from undyed waste in the order.

What a cotton yarn waste exporter in Bangladesh needs from you

Hard or soft
Which kind, or the share of each. Hard waste needs opening before spinning, which adds a step at your mill.
Count and fibre
The count (Ne) the waste yarn was spun at, where known, and 100 percent cotton or the cotton share, tested if the lot may hold blends.
Colour and dye
Grey, dyed or mixed colours, with a reference sample for any colour sort.
Cleanliness
Limits on seed coats and leafy matter, which push waste to the low-value end.
Target yarn tests
If you spin it, the yarn you need: count (Ne), CSP, evenness (U%) and imperfections.
Oil
Oil-free waste only, stated in the order. Oily cotton waste is listed as dangerous goods for transport, so a stained lot cannot travel as ordinary cargo.

Tests and rules for cotton yarn waste

ISO 1833-11
Chemical analysis of cotton mixed with certain other fibres such as polyester, for lots sold on a minimum cotton share.
UN 1364 and UN 1365
Oily cotton waste and wet cotton, listed by the UN as class 4.2 dangerous goods, liable to spontaneous combustion. A dry, oil-free lot avoids both entries.
Basel Convention, entry B3030
Lists yarn waste under cotton waste, not covered as hazardous waste when not mixed with other wastes and prepared to a specification. Textile waste is on the parties' work programme for 2026 and 2027.

What moves the price of cotton yarn waste

  • Hard or soft: soft waste goes back into spinning with less work; hard waste needs opening first.
  • Cleanliness: hard waste and waste with seed coats or leafy matter are the low-value end.
  • Home demand from rotor spinners, recycling mills and towel makers competing for the same waste.
  • The price of cotton, which yarn made from cotton waste stands in for.
  • Any minimum export value or export duty on cotton waste in force; Roptan confirms both before quoting.

Lead times and delivery

What is on offer follows the output of spinning and weaving mills. A mixed lot is usually ready sooner than a single count, a single colour or a soft-only lot, which has to be collected from several mills until it fills your load, and lab tests add time. Roptan sets out the dates and any minimum in its quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver dry, oil-free bales by covered truck to a rotor spinner or recycling plant, with a bale-wise packing list and grade marks, any agreed lab report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Hard and soft waste travel in separately marked bales.

Buying cotton yarn waste for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram. Cotton waste sits in neither the prohibited nor the conditional annex of the Export Policy 2024-27, though the government can bar an export for a while. The exporter's ERC from the CCI&E must be current; it files the shipping bill and sends documents to your bank, usually against a letter of credit. Roptan confirms any minimum export value or duty on cotton waste before quoting.

What we check for this order

  • Declared kind matches the balesBales opened to confirm that hard or soft waste, count and colour match both the description and the tariff line declared.
  • Leaf and seed coatA sample checked for seed coats and leafy matter against the written limit.
  • Damp and oilEvery bale looked over for damp patches and oil stains, since either can make cotton self-heat in a container.
  • Net weight basisGross and tare weighed at loading and net weight worked out on the agreed basis, so the invoice matches the fibre shipped.

Questions buyers ask

Which HS code does cotton yarn waste use?

Usually 5202.10, 'Yarn waste (including thread waste)', within heading 5202 for cotton waste. Lap, sliver and roving waste are not yarn as such and may fall under 5202.99, 'other'. Your customs broker confirms the line for each lot before booking.

Who buys cotton yarn waste in Bangladesh?

Rotor spinning mills, which spin cotton waste into coarse-count yarn; recycling mills, more than 20 of which use cotton waste and jhut by the textile mills' trade body's count; and the terry-towel trade. Roptan sources for these buyers as well as for importers, against the same written limits.

Does cotton yarn waste count as recycled content?

Ask your certifier. GRS and RCS accept pre-consumer material, but whether spinning-mill yarn waste qualifies is for the certifier to confirm. Both standards are being folded into the Materials Matter Standard, effective 31 December 2026, so ask which rules your claim will follow before you buy.

How is the weight of a yarn waste lot settled?

On a moisture basis agreed in the contract. ISO 6741-1 sets how a weighed consignment of fibres or yarns becomes a commercial mass, so naming it fixes how net weight is corrected for moisture, and the invoice then pays for fibre rather than water.

How soon will I hear back about textile waste and rags?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
