Buying walk in cold rooms in Bangladesh
A walk in cold room is a refrigerated store you can step into, built on site from insulated panels, with a condensing unit outside and an evaporator inside. Restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, pharmacies, dairies and fish traders in Bangladesh use them for chilled or frozen stock, and nearly all are bought for use inside the country.
As a walk in cold room supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns your requirement into one brief for verified sellers. We check the refrigeration rating at your summer heat, the panel test reports and the inside door release, then compare quotes with you.
How to brief a walk in cold room supplier in Bangladesh
- Product and set point
- Name what goes in, the set point and the swing you can accept. For medicines, send the product's storage conditions with the brief.
- Capacity at your site heat
- Condensing unit capacity is often rated at a 32 °C reference ambient. Dhaka has recorded more than 40 °C, so ask for capacity at your own peak.
- Panel thickness
- Usually 75 to 100 mm for chill and 120 to 150 mm for freezer rooms, but supplier guides disagree. Ask for the heat gain calculation and panel data sheet.
- Doors and traffic
- Say how often the door opens and whether people, trolleys or pallets pass; busy doors need a closer and strip curtain.
- Monsoon humidity
- Dhaka's average relative humidity is over 80 per cent from June to September. Ask how the seller's design deals with that moisture at the door frame and in defrost.
- Floor
- A freezer room on a ground slab can freeze the soil beneath and heave the floor. Ask for floor insulation and, where needed, heating under the slab.
Standards and papers to ask for
- EN 14509:2013
- The European product standard for factory-made metal faced insulating panels, cold store panels included. A revision is in draft: ask which edition the declaration cites.
- EN 13501-1
- Reaction to fire classification. Ask for the class from a test report on the panel you are buying; the name of the foam core is not a fire class.
- EN 378 and EN ISO 5149-4:2025
- EN 378 covers refrigerating system safety. Its Part 4, on maintenance, repair and recovery, was withdrawn on 31 December 2025 and replaced by EN ISO 5149-4:2025.
- WHO Technical Report Series 961, Annex 9
- Model guidance for medicine storage: hold set point across the yearly ambient range, monitor continuously with calibrated sensors, alarm on failure and qualify before use.
Lead times and delivery
No single time holds for every room. It is usually shorter when panels and a suitable condensing unit are in stock locally, and longer for made-to-order panels, imported units, powered doors, a heated freezer floor or a medicine room needing qualification. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum order in the quote.
We deliver panels and refrigeration to your site anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller erects the room from tongue-and-groove panels, usually joined with cam locks, then pipes, leak tests, charges and starts it, and records a temperature profile empty and loaded. Papers include test records, panel data sheets, warranties and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Can a new walk in cold room still use R-22?
It can, but it is a poor long-term choice. Under the Montreal Protocol, HCFC consumption in developing countries such as Bangladesh falls to zero from 1 January 2030, with a small allowance until 2040 only to service equipment already installed. Bangladesh licenses these gases, so ask for a unit on another refrigerant.
How long will the room stay cold in a power cut?
It depends on the panels, the door seals and how full the room is, so ask for a measured figure. WHO storage guidance asks new rooms to show how long temperatures take to pass their limits after a power failure; the same test suits a food room.
A seller quoted R-25 and R-32 panels. What does that mean?
They are US insulation values in imperial units: a US federal rule for walk ins sets at least R-25 for cooler walls, ceilings and doors, R-32 for freezers and R-28 for freezer floors. It is a reference, not a Bangladesh rule, so ask for metric thickness and conductivity.
Can one room hold medicines and food?
Better not. Medicines are commonly kept at 2 to 8 °C within a set tolerance, under calibrated monitoring and a qualification study. A food room opened all day makes that hard to prove, so plan a separate medicine room.
How soon will I hear back about cold rooms?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
