Buying paper cup and paper converting machines in Bangladesh

Packaging converters, food and drink businesses, tea and coffee outlets, caterers and new manufacturers in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram buy paper converting machines to make cups, plates, bowls, bags, straws, tissue and boxes. Policy is moving buyers away from single-use plastics: in September 2024 the government said polythene and polypropylene shopping bags would be banned in superstores from 1 October 2024, and its phase-out list includes straws, stirrers and cutlery.

A paper cup machine supplier in Bangladesh often quotes a machine and a speed. You need a line that runs your board, sizes and power supply, with moulds, spares and training within reach. Tell us the products, sizes and daily output. We source from verified sellers, check the machine and documents, and deliver. The seller installs and commissions it. You deal with Roptan only.

Paper cup and paper converting machines we source

Paper cup making machines

Forms PE-coated cup board, usually about 170 to 350 g/m2, into cups by sealing the side seam, fitting the bottom and curling the rim. Seams are sealed by hot air, ultrasonic or both, and changeable moulds cover a range of cup sizes.

Paper plate and bowl machines

A forming press shapes coated paper or board blanks into plates and bowls. Ask which sizes and depths the dies cover, whether new dies can be added later, and how blanks are cut and fed.

Paper bag making machines

Specified by bag length, width and bottom width, paper GSM, roll-fed or sheet-fed operation, and in-line printing or handle fitting. A roll-fed square-bottom line is long and heavy, so check the footprint and reel handling.

Tissue and napkin converting machines

Converting lines take a jumbo roll and turn it into toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, napkins or facial tissue by rewinding, embossing, folding and cutting. Facial and toilet tissue are on BSTI's compulsory certification list, so plan the licence with the line.

Corrugated box machines

A corrugator makes single, double or triple wall board in A, B, C, E or F flute; flexo folder gluers, rotary die cutters and printer slotters convert it into boxes. Decide whether you need the board line or only converters.

Paper straw machines

Winds glued paper strips into a tube and cuts it to length. Ask for food-grade paper and a food-safe adhesive, because straws lose rigidity when soaked. Export buyers ask for paper straws because the EU single-use plastics directive bans plastic ones.

What to tell a paper cup machine supplier in Bangladesh

Products and sizes
List every product and size: cup sizes, plate diameters, bag dimensions, roll and napkin formats. Each size may need its own mould, die or format parts.
Output per shift
State pieces per shift and shifts per day. Catalogue speeds are model data, so ask for the rated speed on your product and board, shown in a trial run.
Board and coating
Give the board GSM, single or double PE coating or PLA coating, and whether cups are for hot or cold drinks. Cold cups need waterproofing outside as well, against condensation.
Sealing method
Hot air, ultrasonic sealing or both close the cup side seam. Ask which the machine uses and whether it has been run on the coating you plan to buy.
Power and compressed air
Machines run on three phase 50 Hz and many need compressed air. Load shedding and voltage swings stop heated sealing and glue systems, so plan a stabiliser, standby power and surge protection.
Humidity and reel storage
July humidity of 94 to 100 percent makes reels and board absorb moisture and curl. Plan dry storage and the floor space, reel handling and lifting each machine needs.
Food contact
For cups, plates, bowls and straws, ask the board and coating supplier for food-grade material with a migration test report, in line with the food safety authority's rules for food-contact materials.

Approvals and paperwork for paper converting

BSTI certification for tissue
Facial tissue, toilet tissue and sanitary napkins have been on BSTI's compulsory certification list since 3 September 2018. A tissue or napkin line needs a BSTI licence for its finished goods.
Food-contact material rules
The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority has regulations for materials that touch food. Ask the board and coating supplier for food-grade certificates and migration test reports for cups, plates and straws.
Single-use plastics policy
In September 2024 the government said polythene and polypropylene shopping bags would be banned in superstores from 1 October 2024, with straws, stirrers and cutlery on its phase-out list.
Board tests for boxes
Corrugated board is judged by edge crush (TAPPI T 811), bursting strength (ISO 2759) and box compression (ASTM D642), plus moisture. Ask the seller to show the line running board to your grade.

What moves the price of a paper converting machine

  • Speed and automation: higher output, servo drives and sensors that detect paper breakage cost more than slower semi-automatic machines.
  • Size range: extra moulds, dies and format parts for more sizes add to the machine price.
  • Sealing and coatings: the sealing method and the coatings the machine must run change the specification and the price.
  • In-line units: printing, handle fitting, embossing, counting and packing add cost and floor space.
  • Installation, training and spares: engineer visits, training days, spare moulds and wear parts are often left out of a bare price.
  • Whole line or converters only: a corrugator with converters costs far more than converters running bought-in board.

Lead times and delivery

Machines held in stock in Bangladesh can move quickly. Machines imported to order depend on the maker's build time, sea transit and clearance at Chattogram port. Extra moulds, in-line printing and a witnessed trial before shipment add time, and a heavy line needs the floor, power and compressed air ready before it arrives. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each order in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Narayanganj to Sylhet. Tell us about the floor, access and power supply before shipping. The seller installs, levels and commissions the machine, runs your board through a trial, sets each mould and trains your operators. You receive the trial record, manuals, the spare parts list, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence in the quoted nameCurrent, and in the same name as the quote, so the VAT invoice and warranty come from the business you pay.
  • A trial run before shipmentA filmed or witnessed trial on your board and sizes, approved by you in writing before the machine ships.
  • Specification in writingSpeed, size range, board GSM, sealing method, power and air supply as quoted, matched against the machine's datasheet.
  • A delivery schedule agreedShipping, installation and training dates written into the quote, not agreed after payment.

Questions buyers ask

What paper do I need for paper cups?

Cup board with a polyethylene coating, usually about 170 to 350 g/m2. Cold cups need waterproofing outside too, because condensation soaks plain board, and PLA coating is the main bio-based alternative. Use virgin board for hygiene, with food-grade certificates. Tell us the board and coating, and we check the machine runs them.

Do paper cups need a BSTI mark?

Paper cups are not on the BSTI compulsory certification lists we have seen; facial tissue, toilet tissue and sanitary napkins have been since 3 September 2018. Lists change, so check the current BSTI list before you launch. The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority's food-contact rules still apply to cups.

Hot air or ultrasonic sealing: which should I choose?

Both seal the side seam, and some machines use both. The choice depends on your board, coating and speed. Ask the seller to run your board, show seam and leak tests with hot and cold liquid, and record the trial before shipment. We put the sealing method in the written specification.

Can one machine make several cup sizes?

Usually yes, with changeable moulds, within the size range the machine is built for. Each extra size needs its own mould set and a changeover. List every size you plan to sell, and we ask for the moulds to be quoted and tested at the trial.

Why are buyers moving to paper straws and bags?

Policy points that way. The government's ban on polythene and polypropylene shopping bags in superstores from 1 October 2024 and its single-use plastics phase-out list, which includes straws, push demand for paper. EU buyers ask for paper straws because plastic ones are banned there. Check demand with your own customers before you size a line.

How soon will I hear back about paper cup and paper converting machines?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
