Buying dental equipment in Bangladesh

Dental clinics, hospital dental departments, dental colleges and dental labs in Dhaka, Chattogram (Chittagong), Sylhet and Khulna buy chairs and units, handpieces, intra-oral X ray units, sterilisers, consumables and lab equipment. Since 18 September 2023, medical devices must be registered with the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) before import or sale, so the registration behind each line in a quote matters as much as the equipment itself.

A dental equipment supplier in Bangladesh may quote the chair and leave out the compressor, the installation or the service terms. Tell us what you need and the room it goes in. We source from verified sellers, check the registration, the standards and the warranty in writing, and deliver. The seller installs and trains your team where agreed. You deal with Roptan only.

Dental equipment we source

Dental chairs and units

The patient chair with the delivery system for handpieces, the cuspidor, the suction and the operating light. Ask for the test report to ISO 7494-1, and state whether the compressor and suction unit are included or quoted separately.

Dental handpieces

High-speed air turbine handpieces, straight and angle handpieces, and air or electric motors. Check that the coupling fits your unit, ask for the test report to ISO 14457, and confirm how the maker says the handpiece is to be sterilised.

Dental X ray units

Intra-oral units take single-tooth images with a sensor or film; panoramic units are a separate, larger purchase. An intra-oral unit should meet EN 60601-2-65, and the clinic needs a licence from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) to own and use it.

Autoclaves and sterilisers

Small steam sterilisers for instruments and handpieces. EN 13060 defines cycle types B, N and S. As the trade reads it, class B, with vacuum stages, suits wrapped, hollow and porous loads such as handpieces; class N suits unwrapped solid instruments only. Get the cycle class in writing.

Dental consumables

Gloves, masks, burs, impression materials, cotton rolls, suction tips and sterilisation pouches, bought by the pack on a regular schedule. State the item, pack size and monthly quantity, and ask for the expiry date of each lot on delivery.

Dental lab equipment

Model trimmers, vibrators, furnaces, curing units, casting machines and dust extraction for dental labs. State what the lab makes, the power supply at each bench, and whether the seller installs the equipment and trains the technicians.

What to tell a dental equipment supplier in Bangladesh

Who uses it and how often
A private clinic, a teaching hospital and a busy department work different hours. State patients a day and the main procedures, so the seller matches the unit to the work.
Room plan
Send the room plan with door widths and the drain, water and power points, so the chair, cuspidor and suction fit and can be connected.
Power supply
State single or three phase at 50 Hz, and whether a stabiliser or UPS is in place. Voltage swings and load shedding are common, so ask how the unit behaves on a power cut.
Compressed air and suction
Ask whether the compressor and suction are in the quote, their rated ambient temperature and whether an air dryer is fitted, since clinic rooms are hot and humid for much of the year.
Handpiece couplings
Name the coupling on your existing unit, so new handpieces and motors fit without adaptors.
Sterilisation load
Say what you sterilise each day: wrapped instruments, handpieces or unwrapped solid instruments. The load decides the cycle class and the chamber size.
X ray room and licence
For an intra-oral unit, say which room it goes in and whether the clinic already holds a BAERA licence or still has to apply.
Consumables list
Items, pack sizes and monthly quantities, so the quote covers repeat orders and the expiry dates you accept.

Registration, standards and licences for dental equipment

DGDA medical device registration
Under the Drug and Cosmetics Act 2023, devices must be registered with DGDA before import or sale, and a local Bangladeshi entity holds the registration. Ask for the number for each line.
ISO 13485 and the maker's papers
The maker's quality system certificate, with the CE certificate or equivalent, the free sale certificate and the letter of authorisation that usually support a DGDA file.
ISO 7494-1 for chairs and units
Requirements and test methods for stationary dental units and patient chairs. A quote that still cites ISO 6875 cites a standard withdrawn in 2018.
ISO 14457 for handpieces
Requirements and test methods for straight and angle handpieces, high-speed air turbines, and air and electric motors. Ask for the test report to it.
IEC 60601-1 and EN 60601-2-65
IEC 60601-1 covers the safety of medical electrical equipment; EN 60601-2-65 adds the particular requirements for intra-oral dental X ray units.
BAERA licence for X ray
X ray units are licensed by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority, and the clinic or hospital that uses the unit holds the licence to own and use it. Plan it before the unit is delivered.

What moves the price of dental equipment

  • Chair and unit configuration: delivery system, light, suction and compressor included or quoted separately.
  • Origin and build of the equipment, and whether spare parts are held in Bangladesh.
  • Registration status: a product already registered with DGDA avoids the cost and wait of a new file.
  • Steriliser cycle class and chamber size.
  • Installation, training, the warranty period and the number of service visits included.
  • For X ray: sensor or film, and the room work needed around the unit.

Lead times and delivery

We do not quote a standard lead time. It depends on whether the item is in stock in Bangladesh, whether it is already registered with DGDA, and whether it has to be imported and cleared at Chattogram or Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. A product not yet registered takes longer, because registration comes before import. Roptan confirms the date for each line in the quote.

We deliver to clinics, hospitals and labs across Bangladesh. The seller installs and commissions chairs, X ray units and sterilisers where agreed, and trains your staff. Ask in the quote who installs, how many service visits the warranty covers, which spare parts are held locally and how soon an engineer comes after a fault. You receive the delivery note, the user manual, the warranty in writing and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and DGDA registrationA current trade licence in the quoted name, and the DGDA registration number or the written basis for each product in the quote.
  • Brand authorisationA letter from the maker authorising the seller for the equipment quoted, so the warranty and spare parts are honoured.
  • Warranty and service terms in writingWarranty period, service visits, response time after a fault and spare parts, written into the quote rather than promised.
  • Installation and trainingWhether installation, commissioning and staff training are included or priced, and who carries them out.

Questions buyers ask

Does dental equipment need DGDA registration in Bangladesh?

Medical devices do. Since the Drug and Cosmetics Act 2023 took effect on 18 September 2023, devices must be registered with DGDA before import or sale, through a local entity. Ask the seller for the registration number of each item in the quote, or the written basis if they say a product does not need one.

Do I need a licence to install a dental X ray unit?

Yes. X ray units are licensed by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA), and the clinic or hospital that uses the unit holds the licence. Start the licence early and ask the seller which documents for the unit they provide. We check the papers before delivery.

Which autoclave class should a dental clinic buy?

For handpieces and wrapped instruments, the trade reads EN 13060 as calling for a class B cycle, which removes air with vacuum stages. Class N suits unwrapped solid instruments only. Tell us what you sterilise each day and we ask the seller to state the cycle class and chamber size in writing.

What should a complete quote for a dental chair include?

The chair and delivery unit, the operating light, the cuspidor, the suction and the compressor, or a clear note of what is left out. It should also state the power supply, installation, training, warranty period, service visits and the DGDA registration. Quotes compare fairly only when they cover the same items.

Can you supply dental consumables on a monthly schedule?

Yes. Send the list of items with pack sizes and monthly quantities. We source them from verified sellers, check the registration and the expiry date of each lot, and deliver on an agreed schedule to your clinic or lab, with a VAT invoice for each delivery.

How soon will I hear back about dental equipment?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
