Buying cushion covers in Bangladesh
A cushion cover is the removable case of a decorative or seat cushion, sold empty or with an insert; in the UK these are scatter cushions, in the US throw pillows. Trade bodies list cushion covers among Bangladesh's home textile exports. At home, hotels, restaurants, offices and furniture shops order them by fabric, size and design.
On a cover, the seams and closure take the strain and the colour faces daylight. Roptan briefs the cushion cover manufacturer in Bangladesh on both, sources from a verified seller, checks a sample on your insert and inspects the bulk.
What a cushion cover manufacturer in Bangladesh needs
- Cover and insert size
- Give the finished cover size in centimetres and the insert it must fit, since the cover-to-insert relation sets how full the cushion looks.
- Fabric
- Cotton, linen, velvet, chenille, microfibre or a jute blend, with the weight and a swatch; the fabric decides which tests apply.
- Closure
- Envelope overlap width, or the zip's type, length and position, concealed or visible, and the side it sits on.
- Edges and decoration
- Plain seam, piping or tassels, and print, jacquard, machine embroidery or hand kantha, with placement and colours.
- Use and cleaning
- Seat, sofa or display; near a window or not; washable or dry-clean only. The answers decide the abrasion, light and wash tests.
Tests for cushion covers
- ISO 13935-2, ISO 13936-1 and ASTM D1683
- Seam strength by the grab method, yarn slippage at seams in woven cloth and sewn-seam failure, since the seams and closure take the strain.
- ISO 12947-2 or ASTM D4966
- Martindale abrasion for seat and sofa cushions, with pilling by ISO 12945-2 or ASTM D3512 for soft, brushed fabrics.
- ISO 105-B02 and ISO 105-X12
- Colour fastness to light by the xenon arc lamp test, for covers in daylight, and to rubbing, for dark colours on pale sofas.
- ISO 5077 and ISO 105-C06
- Shrinkage after washing by ISO 6330 procedures, and wash fastness, so a washable cover still fits its insert and keeps its colour.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100
- Class 4 covers home textiles and decoration materials such as curtains. Cushion covers are not named, so ask the issuer which class the certificate covers.
Lead times and delivery
Plain covers in a stock fabric usually ship sooner than decorated ones. A print needs a strike-off, a dyed colour a lab dip, and embroidery or kantha a reference piece; hand stitching time depends on the design. Seam, abrasion and fastness tests add time before bulk. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per design in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers covers flat or with inserts, bagged by design and size, with the packing list, test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Hotels and shops can approve one cover on their own insert before bulk, so fullness is judged on the real thing.
Buying cushion covers for export
Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with covers packed flat or filled as you order. For the US, 16 CFR Part 303 lists cushions and furniture covers as covered products, and a covered product's label gives the fibre content, the company name or registered number, and the country of manufacture.
Questions buyers ask
Zip or envelope: which should I choose?
An envelope back has no zip or button, so it is simple to make and to wash, but the overlap must hide the insert. A concealed zip hides its teeth behind a tape for a neat back. Tell us how the cushions are used, and approve a sample of each before you decide.
Do you supply covers with inserts?
Yes, covers alone or filled. Give the insert size and filling, such as polyester fibre, feathers or a non-woven pad, and say whether covers must come off for washing. Filled cushions take far more carton space, which changes freight, so we quote both ways if you are unsure.
Can you supply kantha cushion covers?
Yes. Nakshi kantha, the stitched textile craft of Bengal, is now made into cushion covers. Each piece is embroidered by hand, so designs and sizes vary a little. Agree an approved reference piece and the tolerance in writing, and expect the time to depend on the design.
Will the colour fade by a window?
It can. Ask for colour fastness to light by the xenon arc test, ISO 105-B02, for covers that sit in daylight, and for rubbing fastness, ISO 105-X12, on dark colours. Jute is valued in home textiles partly for its colour and light fastness.
How soon will I hear back about home textiles?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
