Buying industrial gases in Bangladesh

Industrial gases run gas cutting and welding, food packing, drink carbonation, cold-chain shipping and lab work. Buyers include steel and fabrication works in Chattogram (Chittagong), Gazipur and Narayanganj, food and drink plants, cold-chain shippers and labs in Dhaka, and contractors who weld on site. Medical oxygen is a separate, regulated supply and this page does not cover it.

An industrial gas supplier in Bangladesh fills cylinders under a licence that a trader does not hold. Tell us the gas, the grade, the form of supply and how much you use. We source from licensed fillers and distributors, check the licence, the safety data sheet and the certificate of analysis for each batch, and deliver. You deal with Roptan only.

Industrial gases we source

Industrial oxygen cylinders

Compressed oxygen in seamless steel cylinders for gas cutting, brazing, welding and process use. Industrial oxygen is not for breathing. State the cylinder size, the number used each week and whether you exchange your own cylinders or rent the seller's.

Nitrogen gas

Compressed nitrogen in cylinders or bundles for purging pipes and tanks, blanketing products against air, food packing and laser cutting. Say the purity, the flow and pressure at the point of use, and your weekly use.

Liquid nitrogen

Nitrogen as a cryogenic liquid (UN 1977) for freezing, sample storage, shrink fitting and labs, supplied in vented dewars or insulated tanks. Ask whether the seller fills your dewars on site or sells by the litre.

Carbon dioxide

CO2 in cylinders for drink carbonation, food packing, welding mixtures, pH control and fire suppression. Gas that touches food or drink needs food grade, usually specified against EIGA Doc 70, as the trade states. Always state the end use.

Dry ice

Solid CO2 at minus 78 °C for cold-chain shipping, blast cleaning and lab samples. It turns straight to gas and loses mass in transit, so state the weight, the form and the delivery time. Never seal it in a gas-tight box.

Argon and welding gases

Pure argon for TIG welding and argon-CO2 mixtures for MAG welding of steel. ISO 14175 classifies these shielding gases and places argon-CO2 mixtures in group M. Quote the designation and the process so the mixture matches the job.

What to tell an industrial gas supplier in Bangladesh

Gas, grade and end use
The gas and what it does in your process. The end use sets the grade: food-grade CO2 for drinks, a stated purity for nitrogen, a designated mixture for welding.
Form of supply
Compressed cylinders, cylinder bundles, liquid in dewars or a tank, or dry ice as blocks or pellets, chosen by how much you use and how fast.
Quantity and rhythm
Use per day or week in kg, litres or cylinders, the peak as well as the average, and how often you want deliveries.
Cylinder size, valve and ownership
Water capacity, the valve outlet your regulators fit, and whether you exchange your own cylinders or rent the seller's. Identify the gas by its label, not by colour.
Pressure and flow at the point of use
The working pressure and flow your machines need, so the seller supplies matching regulators, manifolds or, for liquid supply, a vaporiser.
Storage and access
A ventilated, shaded place with cylinders secured upright; liquid nitrogen and dry ice need ventilation because the gas displaces oxygen. Add delivery hours and vehicle access.

Licences, standards and paperwork for industrial gases

Department of Explosives licences
Filling cylinders and importing cylinders need licences from the Department of Explosives, which administers the Gas Cylinder Rules 1991. Roptan does not hold them: the filler or licensed distributor must, and we check them.
ISO 9809-1 for seamless steel cylinders
Covers design, construction and testing of refillable seamless steel gas cylinders up to 450 litres water capacity. Ask for the test stamp on each cylinder and read the last test date.
BS 4364 for industrial oxygen
The British specification for industrial oxygen sets criteria, analysis methods and labelling, and excludes medical and breathing use. Ask which specification the certificate of analysis follows.
ISO 14175 for welding gases
Classifies and designates shielding, backing and process gases for welding, so a quoted mixture can be compared like for like between sellers.
UN numbers and safety data sheets
Compressed oxygen is UN 1072, argon UN 1006, liquid nitrogen UN 1977 and dry ice UN 1845. Each product needs a safety data sheet to GHS before the first delivery.

What moves the price of industrial gases

  • Grade and purity: food-grade CO2 and high-purity gases cost more than standard industrial grades.
  • Form of supply: bulk liquid usually costs less per unit than small cylinders, but needs a tank or dewars.
  • Cylinder terms: rental, deposit or exchange of your own cylinders changes the cost of each fill.
  • Volume and contract: a steady monthly volume prices differently from one-off orders.
  • Distance: transport from the filling plant and delivery frequency add to cost.
  • Losses: dry ice and liquid nitrogen lose mass in transit and storage, so compare the quantity delivered.

Lead times and delivery

Gases are filled to order or supplied from stock at the filling plant, and regular users usually move to a fixed delivery cycle. Special mixtures, high-purity grades, new cylinders and bulk tanks take longer, and imported cylinders also need clearance at Chattogram. We do not quote a standard lead time or minimum: Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver cylinders, dewars and dry ice to factories, workshops and labs across Bangladesh by vehicle, with cylinders secured. The Gas Cylinder Rules 1991, as reported in the press, do not allow cylinders on bicycles or motorcycles. Each delivery is checked for gas, grade, quantity and cylinder test date, and empties are logged for return. You receive the certificate of analysis, the safety data sheet, a delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and explosives licenceA current trade licence, and the Department of Explosives licence of the plant that fills the cylinders, or the import licence for imported cylinders.
  • A safety data sheet for every productA current safety data sheet to GHS for each gas, liquid and dry ice product before the first delivery, so your store and staff are ready.
  • A certificate of analysis per batchA certificate of analysis stating purity and the specification for each batch or fill, not one certificate for every delivery.
  • Storage and handling termsCylinder ownership, rental or exchange, return of empties, stamped test dates and storage advice, all in writing before the first order.

Questions buyers ask

Who holds the licence for filling gas cylinders?

The filler or licensed distributor. Filling and importing cylinders need licences from the Department of Explosives, under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, which administers the Gas Cylinder Rules 1991. Roptan does not fill or import cylinders. We check the seller's licence before the first order.

How do I check a cylinder before I accept it?

Read the label for gas and grade rather than relying on colour, and check that the valve outlet fits your regulator. Look for the test stamp and last test date, and refuse cylinders that are damaged, unlabelled or unstamped. Ask which standard they were made to, such as ISO 9809-1.

Do I need food-grade CO2?

Yes, if the gas touches food or drink, as in carbonation or packing. Food-grade CO2 is usually specified against EIGA Doc 70, as the trade states. Welding, pH control and fire suppression can use industrial CO2. Say the end use and ask for a certificate of analysis for each batch.

How should I store dry ice and liquid nitrogen?

In a ventilated place, never sealed. Dry ice turns to gas at minus 78 °C, and 1 kg gives roughly half a cubic metre of CO2, which displaces oxygen and can burst a gas-tight box, so never keep it in a cold room. Liquid nitrogen needs vented dewars, gloves and face protection.

Which gas do I need for TIG, MIG or MAG welding?

TIG welding and MIG welding of aluminium usually use pure argon. MAG welding of steel commonly uses argon-CO2 mixtures, which ISO 14175 places in group M. Give the process, the metal and its thickness, and quote the ISO 14175 designation so sellers price the same mixture.

How soon will I hear back about industrial gases?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
